Marshall Dolph Huffman
March 19, 1933 - December 31, 2017
FORT WORTH - Marshall Dolph Huffman, 84, passed from this life on Dec. 31, 2017, in Fort Worth, Texas but his heart remained in his beloved West Texas and wide - open spaces until the very end.
Memorial: Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Marshall's name to The Women's Center of Tarrant County, 1723 Hemphill St., Fort Worth, Texas, 76110, or a West Texas organization of your choice.
Marshall was born at home in Tokio, Texas, on March 19, 1933, to Oleta Marshall Huffman and Garland L. Huffman. He attended school in Brownfield, Marfa, Kermit and graduated from Stanton High School in 1951. Following high school, he worked in home construction in Midland until entering the U.S. Army, at the invitation of the U.S. government, in 1953. Marshall served in the 336th Combat Engineers in Seoul, Korea and returned home in 1955.
On Dec. 31, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Eula Belle Mott. In 1957, Marshall began his college education at Odessa College later transferring to Texas A&M University where his blood gradually turned maroon. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1961 as a Distinguished Student in Civil Engineering with honors.
Following graduation, he joined the Texas Highway Department (now TX DOT) in Fort Stockton where construction was just beginning on the Eisenhower Interstate Highway System. He spent his career in TX DOT District 6 which encompasses most of West Texas. He advanced to Resident Engineer in Pecos then to District Construction and Design Engineer and finally District Engineer until his retirement in 1995. Marshall was a respected mentor to many in TXDOT and helped open doors and created opportunities for new and diverse leadership in the department.
Marshall and Eula resided in Odessa for over 35 years until moving to Fort Worth in 2013.
His pride and joy were his children and grandchildren: Sons, Collerson Huffman and his daughter, Sydney; Carry and Kristi Huffman and their daughter, Austin and Mitchell Aufdengarten and their daughter, Kaelyn, and sons, Justin Huffman and Westin Huffman; and Chrisee Huffman and her son, Brett Tebbe and daughter, Emily Tebbe.
Known for his devotion to his family, keen wit, remarkable recall, good looks and all-around loveable guy, Marshall/Dad/D'Daddy will be greatly missed by many.
Marshall was predeceased by his parents, brother L. Ray Huffman and great grandson Levon Bishop Wright.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eula Belle Huffman, and his children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Jimmie Perkins (Jim), Dianna Coleman (Michael), and his brother, Rodney Huffman (Connie), plus cherished sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sara Blocker (Corky), Jean Scudder (Danny) and Ben Mott (Bernie). This close family includes many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and caregiver, Leticia Munoz.
