Edward Earl Sewell
November 17, 1932 - December 30, 2017

Edward Earl Sewell, 85, passed away December 30, 2017, at Ridgecrest. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 5, at Central United Methodist Church with Reverend Bob Rainey officiating. A private burial will follow on Saturday, January 6, at Comal Cemetery, New Braunfels, Texas. Visitation will be one hour before the service at Central United Methodist Church.

Earl was born November 17, 1932, in Paducah, Texas, to W. A. Sewell and Pearl Faucett Sewell. He attended Texas A&M University at College Station and graduated in 1954. He was a Captain in the United States Air Force. After leaving the military, he went on to pursue various entrepreneurial careers, eventually retiring from Rainbo Bread. He met the love of his life in Austin, Texas, while square dancing. He married Mary Lynn Metz on October 11, 1963. Never a man to sit idle and always looking for something to do, Earl enjoyed square dancing, reading, bridge, and water aerobics. He enjoyed watching sports, particularly when his grandchildren were playing, and would stop whatever he was doing to cheer Baylor and his Dallas Cowboys. His high level of energy was best served through his many years of volunteering, including Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, and Friends of the Waco McLennan County Library.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; his twin sister, Willie Pearl “Rudi”; brothers, Douglas, Cliff, Jay, and Bobby Jim; and sisters, Lillie, Ada, Ellie, Elsie, and Bonnie.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Waco; daughter, Lisa Harper of Chattanooga, Tennessee; son, Mark Sewell and wife, Leslie of Chattanooga; granddaughter, Jessica Harper (Natalie) of Austin; granddaughter, Jordan Harper of San Antonio; grandson, Jonathan Harper and fiance, Emily of Houston; and beloved nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be members of Central United Methodist Church and Mark Sewell, Jonathan Harper, and David Harper.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 5740 Bagby Avenue, Waco TX 76712, American Cancer Society, or American Parkinson Disease Association. The family would like to thank the Central United Methodist Church family for their support, as well as Ridgecrest for the compassionate care given during this difficult time. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
