Joe Frank Bell
October 2, 1928 - December 29, 2017

Joe Frank Bell, 89, of Hubbard, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 in Waco. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 2 at First Baptist Church of Hubbard with Rev. Ricky Woodall officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11 a.m. before the services on Tuesday.

Joe Frank was born October 2, 1928, in Hubbard, Texas to James Lester and Jettie Mae Norris Bell. He graduated from Hubbard High School in 1945 and Texas A&M University in 1949 with a BS in Business Administration. Joe Frank served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant during the Korean War as a member of the 5th Regimental Combat Team from 1950-1951.

On December 24, 1950 Joe Frank married Martha Clayton and raised 6 children.

He worked as an electrical superintendent and business man for companies such as Brown and Root, Inc. and Gilbert Commonwealth. He owned and operated the Western Auto Store in Hubbard and the Hubbard Self Storage in Hubbard. Mostly, he was known for his passion for auctions and buying and selling at the right price. As his business card said, “To buy or sell, see Joe Bell.” Joe Frank was a devoted husband and father and a faithful Christian man who was generous and kind. He will be remembered for his string ties and his warm smile and handshake.

Joe Frank was an active member of the Hubbard community volunteering as a Hubbard volunteer fireman, as a member of the Hubbard City Council, a deacon of First Baptist Church, and as president of the Hubbard School Board. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting, and competitive target and skeet shooting. Joe Frank was a lifelong and devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Hubbard.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Lester and Jettie (Norris) Bell and his sister Donna Lou (Bell) Rush.

He is survived by his wife Martha Clayton Bell, and his six children and their spouses: Jo Anne (Bell) Hull, James and Linda Bell, Judy and Bob Rainey, Jean and Kenneth Carrell, Frank and Sandra Bell, and Mary Jane and Jon Moreau. He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren: Wade Hull, Natalie Hull Hoge, Clayton Bell, Davis Bell, Michael Valentine, Russell Valentine, Richard Rainey, Pamela Rainey Feldman, Steven Rainey, Sam Carrell, Kyle Carrell, Amber Bell, Brian Bell, Jett Moreau, and Josey Moreau. He is survived by 9 great grandchildren: Joey Hull, Jordan Hull, Joe Bell, Ben Bell, Lily Bell, Maggie Bell, Madilyn Rainey, Lilly Rainey, and Benjamin Baber. Additionally, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include grandsons Wade Hull, Clayton Bell, Davis Bell, Michael Valentine, Samuel Carrell, Kyle Carrell, Brian Bell, Jett Moreau, and Richard Rainey (currently serving his country in the U.S. Army in Germany).

The family requests that memorials or donations in Joe Frank’s memory be made to the Historic Hubbard High School or the Hubbard Volunteer Fire Department.
