William Lyle Dorries was born at Denison, Texas, April 4, 1923, to William A. and Hattie Seal Dorries. He grew up in Cunningham, Lamar County, Texas.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home.
During WW II he served three years in the Army Air Corps. He taught in the Fannin County veterans program in Bonham, Texas. At First Baptist Church in Bonham, he met Virginia Pink Julian. They were married on December 21st, 1947. He earned his Masters and Ph.D. at Texas A&M. He taught on the faculty of East Texas State University (now Texas A&M, Commerce) for 30 years. He was head of the Department of Economics and Finance, and was awarded Professor Emeritus status after retirement.
He was involved in the church as a Sunday School teacher, department director and deacon. He was a long-time member of Kiwanis service organization

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Carlos (and wife), Duane, and two-year-old grandson, Andrew Lyle Dorries.
Surviving are his wife, son Dr. David Dorries, daughter Martha (and Clark) Whitten; granddaughters Wendy (Joey) Chase, and Abby (Heath) Ritenour; grandsons Paul, Davis and John Dorries; great-grandchildren Clark, Luke (Chase), and John and Shelby (Ritenour). Aunt Sandra Pilip. Four nephews; Mick Dorries, Bobby, Billy and Tommy Dorries. Nieces; Vicki Longoria and Joyce Dorries.
