Glenn O'Larry Emison June 8, 1926 - October 9, 2017 San Diego Larry Emison led a meaningful life of integrity. A resident of San Diego, California, for over 60 years, he was born in Brownwood, Texas, in 1926 to Lora (Gotcher) and Owen Emison. Preceded in death by his wife Beverly Loretta (Smyle) Emison of Brooklyn, New York, and his son Rodney David Emison, sister Carolyn, brothers David, Burt, and Danny. Mr. Emison is survived by his children Wes Emison (Cathy) of Los Gatos, Tracy Emison of Elk Grove, and Clay (Debbie) Emison of Ramona, California. He leaves behind nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.Mr. Emison attended Van Nuys High School, Texas A&M where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and the University of Southern California where he received his Master of Science in Metallurgy.After serving in the United States Army Air Corps, Mr. Emison began his aviation career with Radioplane Company as an engineer with their target drone program. He then joined Ryan Aeronautical Company as a Flight Test Supervisor and Senior Project Engineer with the Firebee jet-powered unmanned target drone program used for air-to-air and ground-to-air training by all branches of the U.S. armed services in support of the United States Department of Defense. The company made important contributions to the nation's war efforts during World War II, through the Korean War and into the Cold War and on to the Gulf War. Mr. Emison's career culminated as Program Manager of the Firebolt program, a Mach 4.3/103,000 foot altitude drone.In his free time, Mr. Emison enjoyed deer hunting in Utah, dove hunting in the Imperial Valley, and fishing in the waters surrounding San Diego. He enjoyed football, always following his Texas A&M Aggies, USC Trojans, and San Diego Chargers. An avid reader, Mr. Emison loved to discuss politics with just about anyone willing to listen.A celebration of life will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at 10:00 AM on January 13, 2018.
