Death: Feb. 8, 2008

William Johnson, 83, passed away Friday, February 8, 2008 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Bill was born March 24, 1924 in Laredo, Texas to Byron and Mary Johnson and lived there most of his life.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elizabeth Ann "Missy" Campbell. He married Mary Louise "Murdie" Davis in 1944 and they had four children. She died in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1994 after a long illness.

In 1999, he married Fredericka Yates Leonard "Kika" in San Antonio where they lived until her death in May, 2005.

He is survived by his children, William Johnson, III (Judy) of Laredo, Mary Ann Reuter (Jerry) of Clear Lake, Texas, Paul Johnson (Catherine) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and John Johnson (Suzie) of Corpus Christi, Texas; his grandchildren, Gerald "G.J." Reuter (Alicia), Ann Reuter, Edward Johnson, Mallory Johnson, Caitin Johnson, Todd Freedman (Amy), Jason Freedman, and Aaron Freedman; his great-grandchildren, Weston Freedman and Jackson Reuter. He will be greatly missed by his niece, Melissa Campbell of Miami, and all the Kowalski and Leonard families.

During his life in Laredo, Bill was an active participant in community affairs. He was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Border Olympics, Boy Scouts, and the Kiwanis Club serving in many positions with these organizations. He owned and operated several new car dealerships in Laredo before retiring from Wm. Johnson Motors in 1979.

He was a veteran of World War II serving as a U.S. Marine in the Pacific Theatre until he was wounded on the island of Saipan in 1944. While in Laredo, he was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and he remained active in his faith until his death.

Visitation and a rosary were held at Hillside Home Chapel. A funeral mass was celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment followed in the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers - G.J. Reuter, Edward Johnson, Todd Freedman, Jason Freedman, Aaron Freedman and Tommy Ringwood.

Honorary pallbearers - Richard Leyendecker and George Macdonald.
