Dale Dowell, 85, born in Goose Creek, Texas on July 17, 1932, the son of James Dale Dowell and Margaret King Dowell Blanch, died on November 15, 2017 after battling a lengthy illness.
After graduating from high school in Austin, Dale attended Texas A&M ‘54 where he was a proud member of the Corp of Cadets and the Ross Volunteers. Dale received his law degree from the University of Texas and after fulfilling his military obligation with the
United States Army he began his career practicing law in Beaumont, Texas that spanned over fifty years.
Dale was an active member of the Beaumont community where for many years he coached youth football and baseball and held various positions with the Jefferson County Bar Association, the Jefferson County Democratic Party, the Beaumont A&M Club and the Beaumont
Rotary Club. He was also a delegate in 1976 to the Democratic National Convention.
Dale is preceded in death by his mother, father and the love of his life, his wife of over fifty years, Patricia Skaggs Dowell, whom he married in 1957.
Dale is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Alison Dowell, three grandsons, James, Jordan and Kristopher Dowell, daughter, Terry Crocker and her husband, Rev. Byron Crocker. He also leaves behind his sister, Marilyn Sandhop and good friend, Debbie
Berryhill.
A visitation will be held at Broussard’s Mortuary at 2000 McFaddin Ave in Beaumont on Saturday, November 25 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. Dale’s funeral service will follow the visitation and begin at 2:00 pm and will be officiated by Rev. Canon John W. Newton IV.
The funeral will be followed by a graveside service at Forest Lawn Cemetery, also in Beaumont. Pallbearers will be John Sandhop, Stephen Sandhop, David Sandhop, Johnny Newton, Gerald Flatten and Dan Flatten. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to
