Ronald Frederick Plackemeier

Ronald Frederick Plackemeier ''Capt. Ron'' left this world for his heavenly home on Saturday November 11th at the age of 65. Ron passed away peacefully in his sleep at his families' home in College Station simply referred to as ''The Woods''. Ron grew up in Houston, Texas, was a graduate from Texas A&M University in 1975 and received his law degree from the South Texas School of Law in Houston 1979.

Following graduation, he joined the law firm of Lyons, Nugent & Lilienstern in Texas City, Texas. Eventually he became a partner and the firm became known what it is today Lyons & Plackemeier. Over the years, Ron followed his entrepreneurial spirit to venture into other businesses such Grand Prize Bar B Que, real estate and horse racing. Most recently he has served as the City Attorney for the City of Texas City and Hitchcock, a post he held until his death.

Ron was highly respected and was constantly called upon in the community to organize and participate in events that recognized and supported the needs of others. He would gladly risk losing a bet at his own expense knowing that those in need would benefit. In 1998, he received the Lesile Hayley Community Service Award; Ron was the past president of the Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Optimist Club of Texas City, past board member and chairman of the Bay Area Council Boy Scouts of America, board member of Hospice and member of the Rotary Club of Texas City, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. Additionally, Ron served in his capacity as legal counsel for numerous civic groups and non-profit organizations such as the Galveston County Emergency Commutations District and Hope Village.


Ron was a loyal Fighting Texas Aggie. He embodied the true spirit of the 12th Man. As a student, he became a yell leader and worked very closely with the Aggie Club, now known as the 12th Man Foundation, and formed the Student Aggie Club with a one-time membership fee of $12.00, which was later known as $12 dollars for the 12th Man. His legacy as a Yell Leader continues to live on today at each and every midnight yell practice fable, by and through Ron's creation of ''Rock-the Good-Ag'' who was born on the forth stoop of Davis Gary Hall in September 1973. Throughout his life, he demonstrated his passion, as he was ready to stand in support of former students, the Letterman's association, the 12th Man Foundation and Texas A&M athletics. For 35 years, Ron's game day ''Tail Gates'' at ''Plack's Place'' set the standard for what tail gating is today in Aggieland. From the time you saw his smile to the moment you heard ''Howdy'', you knew all were welcome, friend or opponent. Visitors left with an even greater appreciation of the Spirit of Aggieland. When the Aggies Muster in 2018, ''here'' will be heard around the world.

Ron was immensely proud of his family. He was a devoted son to his parents Harry and Willien Plackemeier. He and his wife Gayle have been blessed with 4 children, Rusty, Alyssa, Robbie and Jenny, that were the light of his life. Ron loved and encouraged his children to pursue their dreams and to live life to the fullest. Each in their own way today, are reinforcing the vision of their dad, their best friend and biggest supporter.

One Year ago, Ron was blessed with his first grandchild, Bridger Guy Litwin, and spent special moments with him, as Bridger went to his first Aggie Football game in October.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Harry F. Plackemeier and Willien Martha Plackemeier. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Gayle Bradford Plackemeier, son Russell ''Rusty'', daughter in law Karen, daughter Alyssa, son in law Ryan Litwin, grandson Bridger Litwin, son Robert and daughter Jennifer.

Throughout Ron's life he reached out to and included others, never asking for anything in return. His leadership, generosity and friendship is his legacy. He will be missed but the memories will live forever. There is a common chant echoing through heaven right now, ''There's a Coach coming in!''

A Memorial Service and Celebration of His life will be held Thursday, November 16th, at the Doyle Convention Center in Texas City, Texas. Services are to start at 1pm. Family will receive visitors from 11:30 – 12:45. Immediately following the services, the celebration will continue with family and friends in true Plackemeier fashion.
