JOHN THOMAS (J.T.)WIER, 88. passed away peacefully on November 5, 2017. He was born on April 27, 1929 in Houston Heights, Texas to Murl I. and Genevieve Wier. He attended Alamo Elementary, Alexander Hamilton Jr. High, and John H. Reagan High School, and graduated from Texas A&M in January of 1949 with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then served in the Army on Arctic Maneuvers in Yukon Territory near Whitehorse, Canada. After a long distance courtship, and army discharge, he married his sweetheart, Anna Marie Plachy, and they lived for a short time near Memphis, TN. They came back home to Texas, and John worked for Wyatt Metal and Boiler Works and Lummus Company. He then joined Hudson Engineering Corp, now a subsidiary of J. Ray McDermott, where he remained for the next 40 years. During that time, he also served on the ASME B-31.3 Piping Safety Code Committee, for several years as chairman, which provided him and Anna Marie with opportunities to travel all over the United States to attend their meetings. He enjoyed bridge, bowling, camping, boating, snow skiing, square dancing, and especially golf, and being with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In later years, he enjoyed being with his little dog, Fancy. Most especially, he loved Texas A&M.
John is preceded in death by his mother and father, and his sister and brother-in-law Juanita and Lawrence Gillingham. He is survived by his dear wife of 67 years, Anna Marie Wier, and their four children, Cheryl Lynn Schilling (spouse Dr. Harry Schilling), Susan Renee Moore (spouse Brendan Moore), John Michael Wier (spouse Mary-Virginia Mach-Wier), and Brian Patrick Wier. Grandchildren are Ben Schilling (spouse Carolyn Schilling), Dr. Nick Schilling (spouse Connie Schilling), Siomha Moore, and Jack Wier. Great-grandchildren are Avery Schilling and Owen Schilling.
Visitation will be Friday, November 10th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Waltrip Funeral Home. Services will be at Terrace United Methodist Church at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 11th. Burial following at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Texas A&M 12th Man Foundation, PO Box 2800, College Station, TX 77841-2800, or a charity of your choice.
