Grady R. Kane DVM

Grady Ross Kane was born in Marfa, Texas, August 26, 1933 and died October 24, 2017 in his Rockport home. His parents, Arthur and Alma Kennemer Kane, owned a café in Rockport; they moved to Corpus Christi where Grady and his brother Bill graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1951. Grady graduated in 1958 from Texas A&M College with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. He was in the Corps of Cadets and was commissioned a First Lieutenant in the Army Veterinary Corps. Grady married his wife, Mary Clare Galligan, on July 16, 1960, in St. Paul, Minnesota. They raised five children in Killeen, Texas. After 23 years of private veterinary practice, Grady worked with the Texas Animal Health Commission in Corsicana and served as a Veterinary Medical Officer with the U.S.D.A. Veterinary Services. They moved to the Denver area in 1990 when Grady accepted the position of Assistant Veterinarian in Charge, Colorado Area Office. In 1995 he became Field Liaison Veterinarian for the National Animal Health Monitoring Systems, in Fort Collins, retiring in September 1997. Grady and Mary Clare moved to Rockport in December 2015. Grady enjoyed golf, racquetball, woodworking and card-playing. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, children and grandchildren: John, Tracy (Rachel) of Colorado; Kathy Kane of Rockport; Betsy and Frank Roth (Ryan, Grady, Nathan) of California; Pat and Kathy (Sydney, Christopher) of Virginia; Andy and Norma (Stephanie and Jon Peters, Donald, Chris) of Rockport and many relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, a memoriam may be made to AIM Hospice or Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockport. A visitation with family present will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockport, TX, starting at 9:00 am with the Holy Rosary recited at 9:30 am. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Followed by a Christian Burial at the Rockport Cemetery, in Rockport, TX.
