Charles R. Schwarz
October 1, 1930 - October 26, 2017

Charles (Charley) R. Schwarz, 87 of Eagle, Idaho, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017, from natural causes.
Charley was born on October 1, 1930, in Dallas, Texas to Otto Schwarz and Ruby Maddox (maiden). Charley grew up in Dallas and was a member of the Boy Scouts, ultimately becoming an Eagle Scout in 1948. He then became the first person in his family to go to college. He graduated from Texas A&M University on May 13, 1952. Charley was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army the same day.
He honorably retired as a Lt. Colonel on October 1, 1972. During the course of his military career, he served in the Korean War and did two tours of Vietnam. Among other citations, he was awarded the Bronze Star, Army Commendation and the Legion of Merit Military Medals. Charley also obtained a Masters of Public Adminstration from George Washington University in 1968 while on active duty.
After Charley retired from the military, he relocated to El Paso, Texas and began his second career with John Hancock Mutal Life Insurance Co. As with his military career, Charley had a distinguished career with John Hancock. Among other honors, he was awarded Rookie of the Year in 1973; he obtained Life Member status with the Million Dollar Round Table and the John Hancock President's Honor Club, and he was named Life Underwriter of the Year in 1982. Charley also continued his education while working for John Hancock. He obtained his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation from The Amercian College in 1976 and six years later obtained his Charted Financial Consultant (ChFC) status from the same organization.
Charley valued community service. He was a life member of the Freemasons and the Kiwanis Club. Charley was the past president of one of the El Paso Kiwanis chapters, the El Paso Association of Life Underwriters, American Society of CLU, and John Hancock General Agency CLU Association.
Charley is survived by his wife, Kimmie, his three sons, Charley Jr., Jimmy and Bobby, two daughters-in-law, Mae and Venessa, two sisters-in-law, Lian and Crystal, and two grandsons, Christopher and Peter.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Summers Funeral Homes, 1205 W. Bannock Street, Boise, ID. Burial with military honors will follow at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
