Died: Oct 19, 2017

Jacob Michael Cahoon entered the gates of Heaven October 19, 2017. A memorial service will be held at the Salado United Methodist Church, Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 11am with internment immediately to follow at the church Columbarium. Rev. Dr. David Mossier, pastor and Joe Keyes, pastor Church of Christ officiating.

Jacob was born August 6, 1993 in Temple TX. He grew up in Salado, TX, graduating in 2011 from Salado High School where he worked hard to be in the top ten percent of his class. He attended Temple College in Temple, TX for two years and received his Bachelor of Science from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX on Mother’s Day 2015. Jacob was accepted into the 2019 Class College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University where his focus was small and exotic animal care. He received his white coat in a ceremony April 21, 2017.

Jacob’s passion was animals and he was exactly where he wanted to be, fulfilling his life dream and ambition of being a veterinarian. Jacob started working at the Salado Veterinary Hospital for Dr. John Kendall when he was 16 and continued to work for the clinic after high school, during his summers and holidays. Jacob had a great passion for music and excelled in the high school band. He participated in community bands and enjoyed teaching his brother how to play the clarinet. Jacob loved his Chicago Cubs and was an accomplished bowler. He was a member of the Salado United Methodist Church all of his life. He also donated his time to Tablerock’s Goodnight Amphitheater in Salado.

Jacob is survived by his loving parents Michael and Laurie Cahoon and brother Nathan Cahoon of Salado. His Grandparents Shirley and Duane Burnett of Geneseo, IL. Also an Uncle, David Cahoon of Moline, IL, Uncle Timothy Schmoll and Aunt Rebecca Schmoll of Cambridge, IL, an Aunt Catherine Burnett of Geneseo, and his hedgehog, Jules. Jacob is preceded in death by his grandparents Marvin and Rosemary Cahoon of Moline, IL.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Jacob’s name be made to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University. Please make checks payable to the Texas A&M Foundation and write “Jacob Cahoon Scholarship Fund” in the memo section of the check. Checks should be mailed to the College of Veterinary Medicine, Office of Development, 4461 TAMU, College Station, TX 77843-4461.
