John Charles DuBose, Sr.
February 14, 1935 - October 22, 2017

John Charles DuBose, Sr., 82, of Gonzales, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017. John was born February 14, 1935 in Lockhart to Whit Moore DuBose and Pauline Louise Gips DuBose. John was a graduate of Texas A&M Class of 1957, a member of the First United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Gonzales Elks Lodge #2413, a member of the Gonzales Masonic Lodge #30 A.F. & A. M. and a proud member of the 36th Division 141st Infantry Regiment of the Texas National Guard. John married Jacqueline Lee McComan on October 22, 1955 in College Station a union that stood the test of time for 62 years.

John started working for his father at DuBose Insurance Company in 1955 while he was in college. He took over the business in 1964 and continued working until the day of his passing. John had long held a position of distinction at the “Table of Knowledge” where common intellect grew to certain genius the longer each meeting carried on.

John Charles DuBose, Sr. is survived by his loving family, wife, Jackie DuBose of Gonzales, daughter and son-in-law, Sissy and Joe Dell Mills of Gonzales, sons and daughters-in-law, John C. DuBose, Jr. and Cathy of Leesville, Ronald Whit DuBose and Cody of Leesville, 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandchild Sydney Vargo.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 26, 2017 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with the Rev. John Padgett officiating and Dan Blakemore serving as Eulogist. Honorary Pallbearers: Melissa Vargo, John C. DuBose, III, Jeffrey Mills, Ryan Mills, Dustin DuBose, Sterling DuBose and Kale DuBose. The family will receive friends at the Gonzales Elks Lodge following the memorial service. Memorials may be made to the Gonzales Animal Shelter or Texas Elks Children’s Foundation.
