Brent Lee Hemphill
January 27, 1976 - October 22, 2017

Brent Hemphill, age 41, of Coleman County, died Sunday, October 22, 2017, at Coleman County Medical Center. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 26, at the First United Methodist Church, 500 W. Liveoak, Coleman, with Rev. Wayne Lewis and Rev. Richard Hetzel officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Brent Lee Hemphill was born January 27, 1976, in Abilene, a son of Joe Pat Hemphill and Alice Berry Hemphill. He grew up in Coleman County and graduated from Coleman High School in 1994. While in high school, Brent was involved in sports and played football for the Coleman Bluecats. He was also involved in showing steers and, for three consecutive years, was a member of the State Championship Team Penning team in 4-H. Following high school, Brent attended Texas A & M University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in 1998.

Brent married Candys Zumwalt on July 22, 2000, in Coleman and they have two children. He was a rancher and manufacturer of firearms, owning and operating, with his wife, Dark Horse Arms, which was the largest specialized weapons manufacturer in Texas. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and trap shooting, especially with his children. He was a member of the Coleman Rodeo Association, Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) and the Coleman County A & M Club. Brent was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Brent’s happiest and finest hours were spent laughing and playing with Haigen and JZ. He loved every moment spent just loving them and sharing in their antics. There was never “A SHOW” to be had that he didn’t absorb with a smile and a heart full of love and endearment. Hours and hours of laughter and joy were spent clapping, singing and sharing in any creativities they could dream up.

Brent prided himself on Haigen’s horsemanship skills and took great joy in the fact that she could handle herself in the pasture and working cattle. She made him proud each and every time they worked together and he would share his delight in her ability to work through a hard day.

JZ’s shooting skills were always on the top of Brent’s mind and they spent countless hours narrowing JZ’s eye, making him an excellent marksman and able outdoorsman. There was no target too small for JZ and no shot that Brent didn’t think could be made with JZ in charge. His “Haigey Bear and Little Man” were, and forever and always will be, the brightest part of his heart and smile.

Survivors include Candys Hemphill and his children, Haigen Elizabeth Hemphill and Joseph Zeno (JZ) Hemphill; his parents, Joe Pat and Alice Hemphill; one brother and sister-in-law, Heath and Danyelle Hemphill, and their children, Ethan and Hadley Hemphill.

Brent was preceded in death by his grandparents, Zeno and Jo Hemphill and James and Delle Berry.
