Robert Mills
Robert (Bob) K. Mills passed away peacefully on September 19, 2017. He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie Tyler (Terry) and Pamela Smit (Alan), grandsons Robert Tyler (Kera) and Jarrett Tyler, granddaughter Kelly Smit, and great-granddaughters,
Kaitlyn and Stella, and his sister-in-law, Jane Outing. Bob was very close to his family. His wife of 65 years, Dorothy Bowen Mills preceded him in death only 11 months prior to his passing.
Bob was an only child. He grew up in Detroit, Michigan where upon graduating high school left to join the Air Force. While stationed in Sherman, Texas, he met his wife, Dorothy who encouraged him to further his education. He graduated from Texas A & M with
an electrical engineering degree. He worked for the Civil Service at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio while also receiving his Masters of Science Degree in electrical engineering. In 1971, Bob was transferred to Eglin Air Force base in Fort Walton Beach,
Florida. Bob enjoyed sailing, photography, playing chess, socializing at the Yacht Club, and his martinis.
Bob had a great sense of humor and always had a kind word to say about others. Bob and Dot moved to Houston in 2005 to be closer to family. They lived in "The Retreat" community where they met wonderful neighbors and had many social times on the driveways of
their friends. Their friendships were very special to him. Bob also loved his black cat, Sheila. She was one of 6 kittens of a stray cat that he and Dot rescued after moving to the area.
A common phrase of Bob was "It's 5 o'clock somewhere" indicating it is time to socialize with his famous martini. Bob was a fantastic father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He has left a sizable hole in all our hearts. He was loved by his family
and friends and he will be missed every day.
