Dr. Daniel Nelson Kelley
June 01, 1930 - September 23, 2017

Dr. Daniel Nelson Kelley was born in El Paso Texas, to Eugene and Winnie Kelley, they moved to Crockett Texas, after his birth to be with family. When Dan's grandfather passed the three siblings and his mother went to live at the Presbyterian Children's Home where they remained until this grandmother's health improved. Dan graduated from Crockett High in 1947; he attended Sam Houston at the age of 16, and after a few years of working for Houston Co. Electric Co-op, and marrying his wife Lorena. Dan moved to College Station to attend Texas A&M, graduating in 1962 with a DVM degree Dan moved back to Crockett with his family, where he worked for Dr. Max Hawkins for 1½ years. He purchased the Animal Hospital in Huntsville in 1964 with the help of Ralph Lawson and James Farris. He moved to Huntsville where two more children were born then began his practice. Dan's life has been about family and work. Dan had a love for trains he collected them from many places. He loved to fish, hunt, and camp with his family. He worked a weekly cattle auction for the past 50 years, retiring from the auction in 2011. He continued his practice until June 5, 2016 at which time he became ill. His life has been one of hard work and many happy times with his children and extended family we've had many wonderful times, he will be missed dearly.

His parents Eugene and Winnie Kelley, and sons John Michael Kelley and George Eugene Kelley have preceded him in death.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-greatgrandfather.

Dan's survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lorena Poe Kelley, children, son Daniel Kelley, Jr., and wife Debra, daughter, Lorena Michelle Blake and husband John Blake, his grandchildren George Kelley and wife Brandi; Shauna and husband Mitch Hair, Jason and wife LaMina Kelley; Jamie Skaggs and husband Nathan; Jonathan and wife Madison Harrelson; April and Kevin Blount; Jessyka Martinez; Courtni and Bryant Sanders; Rachel Kelley, great-grandchildren Mikel, Amanda, Gracie, Landree, Emma, Rayburn, Katy, Hailey, Nathan, Jr., Isabella, Elias, Brandon, Brodie, great-great granddaughter Mackenzie Beth.

Our family would like to thank many clients, friends, and neighbors who visited, the many prayers, the food, flowers, and for the "blizzards." We would also like to thank Bonnie Hensley, Thee Hospice, Dr. Orms, Suzanne, Elva, Carolyn, Tina Lovie and Jamie.

Memorial Service will be held at Waller Thornton Funeral Home Huntsville, Texas 672 FM 980 Huntsville, Texas; visitation will be at 9:00 to 10:00 am services at 10:00 am, on Friday, September 29, 2017
