Homer Charles “Charlie” Strauss, Jr. was born in Baytown, Texas, on December 1, 1949 and died on September 29, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 67. Charlie is survived by his daughter, Crissa Brooke Strauss of Dallas; sister, Martha Goodman of Houston; niece, Laura Goodman of Dallas; nephew, Michael Goodman of Houston; many close Texas friends and family who were blessed to know the love Charlie shared with them; his adopted New Jersey family to include Chris and Becky Phelan and son William, Matt and Lindsay Brinkmann and twin sons Cole and Mason, and many friends who welcomed “the big Texan” to New Jersey. He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer Charles Strauss, Sr. and Margaret Dixon Strauss; his soul mate, Linda Brinkmann; uncle, Cecil Dixon; and aunt, Opal Dixon.
Charlie graduated from Baytown Robert E. Lee High School in 1968, Texas A&M University in 1972, and South Texas College of Law in 1975. He served his country in the US Army where he attained the rank of Captain. He practiced law in Kerrville, Belton, Austin, and San Antonio. Charlie was very proud to be a federal prosecutor for the US Attorney’s Office in San Antonio. Charlie loved good food and drink, and was quite an accomplished cook. He was generous and loved to share the finished product of his favorite recipes. He especially loved to smoke meats on his Green Egg.
A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held at the Milltown Historic District in New Braunfels, Texas on Sunday October 8, 2017 at 2 pm. All are welcome to attend and share in this celebration. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Charlie’s name to Texas A&M Foundation, Corps of Cadets Company F-2, 401 George Bush Dr. College Station, TX 77840.
