Guy Johnson(1922 - 2017)
Guy Johnson, Jr. recently of Masonville CO passed away peacefully on August 30, 2017, at Hillcrest of Loveland, surrounded by loving family members and care givers. Guy's wife of 57 years, Jean, preceded him in death in 1999. Guy was born on March 11, 1922, in Dallas TX to Guy Johnson and Flossie Josephine Posey. He had a brother, Jerry, and a sister, Marge. For over 30 years, Guy served as a faculty member and taught mathematics, first at Rice University and later at Syracuse University in New York until his retirement in 1987. Guy retired to the village of Spencer near Ithaca NY where he designed and built a retractable roof observatory. When Guy moved from Spencer to Masonville, CO he donated his telescope to the Little Thompson Observatory (LTO) in Berthoud CO where he enjoyed observing the heavens with it on many public star nights. Guy is survived by his three children: Guy Johnson III, Kenneth Norman Johnson, and Bonnie Jean Johnson of Masonville CO. His grandchildren include Devin Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Justin Johnson and Leo McManus of Denver CO. Guy's great grandchildren are Gwen and Layla Johnson. A Celebration of Life for Guy will be held October 14 at the Little Thompson Observatory. Visit www.starkids.org for details or to make a donation to the LTO so others can continue to share Guy's love of the stars.
