Charles Leroy Boyd
October 8, 1921 ~ October 4, 2017 (age 95)
College Station: Dr. Charles Boyd passed away on Oct. 4, 2017 after a brief illness.
Service: October 14, 2017 at the Grandview Cemetery at 2 p.m. A visitation and luncheon will be held prior to the service at the Clayton Kay Vaughan Chapel, Grandview from 11:30 – 1:30 pm.
Charles Leroy Boyd was born on Oct. 8, 1921 in Grandview, Texas where he resided until entering college. He attended Hillsboro Junior College, North Texas Agricultural College, and Texas A&M College where he received his D.V.M. degree in 1945.
He was employed by the Health Department, City of Houston, Texas following graduation from Texas A&M from 1945 until 1947. While living in Houston he met and married his wife Rena June Card. In 1947 the couple moved to Grandview, where he entered general veterinary practice. He remained in practice at this location for seventeen years during which time he and his wife became the proud parents of two daughters, Cynthia Jane and Jennifer Jo Boyd.
Dr. Boyd left practice in March 1964 and moved to College Station, Texas where he was employed as a faculty member in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University. After that move he completed the requirements for and was awarded a Master of Science degree in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery in 1967. Dr. Boyd was an interdisciplinary participant with the College of Engineering in research involving fracture repair implants and prostheses. Seventeen scientific papers were published from this research.
While on the faculty at Texas A& M he served in several positions and received awards and recognition. He was president of the Brazos Valley Veterinary Medical Association and president of the Eta Chapter of Phi Zeta, the honor society for veterinary medicine. He was a member of Sigma XI research society. During this time, he received the Faculty Teaching Award from the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. He also received the Faculty Achievement Award from the Former Students Association of Texas A&M University. He was listed in Outstanding Educators of America, Who's Who in the South and Who's Who in Texas. He served as director of TVMA and progressed through all offices before being elected as president. Dr. Boyd served as chief of the Large Animal Clinic, chief of surgery, and head of the academic Department Of Large Animal Medicine and Surgery for seven years. He was accorded the honor of Professor Emeritus status upon retiring in 1986. He was also accorded the honor of Distinguished Membership in TVMA following forty years of continuous membership and service. He was a Gold Card Member of the AVMA.
Following his retirement, he became a member of the Texas Archeological Society and participated as an avocational archeologist for many years. He enjoyed his hobbies and spending time with his wife Elizabeth, his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Dr. Boyd was very loved and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie Lee and Rubye Boyd and wife June Boyd who died in 1996.
Survivors: He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Boyd; two daughters Cynthia Adkins and husband Wade of Fort Worth and Jennifer Phillips and husband Don of Victoria, British Columbia; two granddaughters Suzanne Stohlmann and husband Rob of Keller and Cheri Stanton and husband Josh of College Station and one grandson Robert Salgado of London, England. He is also survived by five great grandchildren, Austin and Andrew Stohlmann and Caroline, Elizabeth, and Benjamin Stanton.
