Thomas Cecil Hogan Jr.
1924 - 2017

On Friday, October 6, 2017, Thomas Cecil Hogan Jr. passed away, surrounded by family, after 93 years full of fun, laughter, and love.

Tom was born on February 5, 1924 in Olney, Texas to Thomas Sr. and Jewell Hogan. As the oldest of three boys, Tom was a leader, unafraid to blur and sometimes readjust the line of authority. Tom attended Texas A&M and was a member of the notorious Class of '45, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Management Engineering. As a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Infantry, he fought and led men in both WWII and in the Korean War. He received a combat infantry badge with a silver star, four bronze stars, and two presidential unit citations. After his service, Tom returned home to Crane and took over his father's Chrysler dealership.

Tom was a proud Aggie, a member of the Crane community for over 80 years, served on the Crane Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years, served on many civic committees, and was an Eagle Scout. He was a 50-year member of the Masons, 32nd Degree Master Mason, Scottish Rite Mason, and member of the Shriner’s Club. He also received a Governor’s commission as an Admiral in the Texas Navy. Tom was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the administrative board there. He also loved to travel and go camping with his beloved wife and family. Tom loved to tell stories - many of which involved the adjustment of the aforementioned line. Above all, Tom loved his family; but, he was not above playing pranks to keep them on their toes. In his own words, Tom “died an old fart, but honest.”

Tom is preceded in death by his wife Joan, his parents, his brother Theodore, son Tom Hogan III, and granddaughter Jonna Sue Anderson.

He is survived by his children Cecile Elkins and husband, Richard, of Odessa; Teresa Anderson of Crane; and Felder Hogan and wife, Ann, of Andrews; 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Crane with Reverend Jared Secret officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Permian Basin Honor Flight in honor of Tom and Joan Hogan, or your favorite Christian charity.
