PETER E. GODFREY, JR.
Services at the graveside for Peter E. Godfrey, Jr. will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at 10 a.m. in Danville Cemetery with Dr. Rick Webb officiating, under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Mr. Godfrey completed his earthly journey on Thursday, October 5, 2017, surrounded by his family in Longview.
Peter was born on April 25, 1925, in Paducah, TX to Peter Evart Godfrey, Sr. and Edith Godfrey. He received his Bachelors of Science in Accounting degree from Texas A & M University. Peter also dutifully served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He was the comptroller for Sears for 39 years until his retirement. He volunteered through AARP by helping senior citizens with their tax returns for many years. Peter enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, sailing, traveling and being on his computer. At Buckner Westminster Place he continued to “work out” daily and visit with his many friends until his health declined.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Barbara Godfrey of Plano; daughter in law, Shelly Godfrey of Kilgore; granddaughters, Autria Lindsay and her husband Paul of Washington, D. C., Laura Godfrey of Dallas, Lindsay Godfrey of Dallas; niece Susan Shelnutt and her husband John of Little Rock, AR; great niece and nephew, Brooke Shelnutt and Harrison Shelnutt of Little Rock, AR. Also left to carry on his legacy are numerous cousins, friends and other loving family members.
Peter is preceded in death by his parents, wife of 60 years Betty Godfrey, sister Anita Ransom and son Peter E. Godfrey, III.
The family wishes to thank Buckner Westminster Place for all of the loving and compassionate care that they provided for Peter during the final days of his earthly journey.
