Bobby Gene Verdine
7/21/1932 - 9/28/2017

Bobby Gene Verdine, 85, of Alvin, TX passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017. He was born July 21, 1932 to Edvole Verdine and Minnie Mae Rose Verdine in Beaumont, TX.

Bobby attended Texas A&M and graduated in 1955. He was a member and deacon at South Park Baptist Church in Alvin since 1968.

He started his educational career in Alvin, TX with the Alvin ISD in 1968 as the principal at Mark Twain Primary and later moved to R.L. Stevenson Elementary. He had the respect of students, faculty members, other principals and the parents. In 1992, he moved to a position in the Central Administration Building. He eventually became the acting Superintendent of the schools and retired in 1999. He was elected to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Alvin Independent School District for 9 years, where he continued to represent the citizens by looking out for the operations of the school district. In 2016, the Alvin ISD Agricultural Science Center was dedicated to Bobby G. Verdine. His educational career had gone full circle, as he started out being an agriculture teacher in the 1950’s.

Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Verdine; his parents; and his brothers, Cecil Verdine and Clifford Verdine.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheri Gideons and husband Patrick of Alvin; son Ralph Verdine of Alvin; grandson, Kevin Verdine and wife Delia of Sugarland; great-grandchildren, Victoria, Vince, Chance and Madeline; 2 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Beverly Barnett of Silsbee and Cecile Clauder of Lumberton; and many other relatives and great friends.

Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 9:00 A.M. with the funeral service to begin at 11:00 A.M. at the South Park Baptist Church, 1718 S. Johnson St., Alvin, TX 77511 with Rev. Dr. Howard Daniel officiating. Interment will follow at the Confederate Cemetery in Alvin, TX.
