His is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara (Freeman); daughter, Lisa (Jim) Banner; son, Michael (Cindy) Giles; son, David Melichar; grandchildren, Mitchell Giles Floyd, Alexandra (Brian) Jones, Audrey (Jared) Dalton, Jason Giles, Melissa Giles, Brett Giles; step grandson, Tony Rodriguez; sister-in-law, Nell Giles Perkins; nephews, nieces, numerous great grandchildren and many dear friends.

He and Barbara were wed on August 11, 1962. During his career, David worked with Goodyear, Tenneco, and Autotronics Systems, Inc. In 1976, he and his two business partners (and lifelong friends) built and operated Stop 'n Serv, Inc., a chain of convenience food store and gasoline operations in and around Houston. Throughout his career, he remained a devoted and loving husband and father. David was a longtime member of Champion Forest Baptist Church. He was also a Master Mason.

David enjoyed water and snow skiing for many years as well as golfing and hunting. He especially liked spending time at the ranch with his son-in-law. Some of his greatest joys were times traveling the world with his bride and discovering new adventures together.

He will always be remembered as being loving, kind and generous to all who knew him. Although we will miss him terribly, we celebrate his life, well lived and well loved.
