Tedford Emmett Harrod Sr.
Birth Date: May 12, 1935 Death Date: September 22, 2017

Tedford Emmett Harrod Sr., passed away peacefully at home on September 22, 2017, after a courageously fought battle with cancer. Ted was the only child born to Hazel Orr Harrod and E.N. Harrod in Little Rock, AR. The family lived Ted’s younger years in North Little Rock, AR, where he graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1953 when he received a basketball scholarship to Texas A&M University, College Station, TX and Coach Bear Bryant was his Athletic Director. Upon graduation from college in 1957, Ted went into the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Knox, KY. Upon receipt of his honorable discharge from the Army, Ted worked for Gifford-Hill and Co. in Dallas, TX. Always desiring to make his own decisions, Ted resigned from Gifford-Hill in 1970, going into business for himself buying and selling several companies, including concrete, asphalt paving and material companies. In early 1971, Ted began J&H Truck Service, Inc. and Materials Management, Inc. and was still actively involved until his death.

Ted was a generous, selfless man who helped many individuals start their own businesses, helped them in anyway he could, always giving a helping hand when in need. He loved football, basketball and was respected by everyone who knew him and was a man of his word. Ted was an avid, extremely fierce competitor on the tennis court and missed playing the game with all his many tennis friends and buddies at T-Bar M, Dallas, TX this past year while fighting his cancer. He was a devout Christian, who loved the Lord, read scriptures and Christian books daily and is a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church of Plano, TX.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Jackie who died in 1987. Ted is survived by his wife and best friend of almost twenty nine years, Linda S Harrod of Dallas, TX; sons, Ted Harrod Jr. of Plano, TX, Chris Sinkey and fiancée, Shanda Clay of Lewisville, TX; daughter, Terri (Tom) Richards of Newport News, VA. He has eight grandchildren, Tommi (Zeb) Farnham of VA, Malcolm (Leah) Richards of OK, Lacey (Taylor) Medlin of VA, Rachel (John) Hartin of VA, Shea Harrod of WI, Jacqualine Harrod of FL, Kennedy and Parker Sinkey of Lewisville, TX. He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Paislee, Eaton Farnham of VA and Emmett Richards of OK.

The family owes a debt of gratitude to Dr. Korie Flippo, Dr. James Petrikas and their staffs at Texas Oncology, Baylor Scott & White Hospital, Plano, TX, who gave so much to Ted and Linda through this journey ensuring they were given more time together. Linda and the family are extremely grateful to their many friends, business associates, neighbors and loved ones who have provided support, meals, comfort and most of all prayers throughout his illness. Ted wanted everyone to know there is hope in Jesus, his Lord and Savior and treasured each phone call and visits from our Prestonwood family, which included, Dr. Jack Graham, Dr. Jarrett Stephens, Scott Seale and Mike Buster. Ted has touched many people’s lives and being a person who never asked for anything for himself, would appreciate your making a donation to the American Red Cross in his name.
