Herman H. Stoner
August 27, 1927 - September 23, 2017

Herman was born August 27, 1927 in Gordon, Texas to the late W.C. Stoner and Myrtle (Tilghman) Stoner. He graduated Gordon High School in 1945. On December 24, 1946 Herman married Paula Pitts in the Methodist Parsonage in Gordon. They were married for 61 years until her death June 6, 2008.

Herman served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1947 aboard the USS Battleship Texas. Herman was a proud Texas A&M graduate receiving his BS & Masters. Upon graduation he worked for the Soil Conservation Service prior to being hired as the Sherman High School Ag Teacher in 1958. As an Ag teacher, he was extremely involved with his students, the community, the FFA, the Texoma Exposition and Livestock Show, and the Ag Teachers Association. He served as Vice Principal and the Principal of Sherman High School just prior to his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed attending the Bearcat football games right through the 2016 season. Herman was also very active with Texoma Educators Federal Credit Union and was an active member of the Board of Directors.

Herman was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Sherman and was an original member of the “Dough Boys”. Herman was very active serving on various committees and in innumerable capacities ranging from playing Softball in the church league to serving as a Trustee. He loved God and practiced his beliefs daily. Herman made lifelong friends at every stage of his life, having a positive impact on those who knew him.

Herman was also preceded in death by his sister, Syble Fay (Stoner) Haney and her husband, Orvil, along with sister-in-law, Wanda (Boyd) Stoner.

Herman is survived by 2 daughters, Susan Dee Price and husband, Bobby, of Stephenville, and Vickie Lee Price and husband, Charles, of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Katherine Lee Price-Hutchins and husband, Colin, and David Price of Oklahoma City; step-mother, Louise (Jones) Stoner of Gordon; brothers, Calvin Lil Stoner and wife, Ann, of Gordon, Herbert Ray Stoner and wife, JoAnn, of Amarillo, Jimmy Don Stoner and wife, Sula, of Gordon, and Michael Augustus Stoner and wife, Ann, of Weatherford and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, Sept. 26, in Waldo Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, Sept. 27, in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Dowd officiating and Rev. Louella Williams assisting. Honorary pallbearers will be the “Dough Boys”.

Graveside services will be held at 4 PM at the New Gordon Cemetery in Gordon, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church 401 N. Elm St. Sherman, TX 75090, or the charity of your choice.
