Ricky Coates

Ricky Van Coates passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 in Wayne, Pennsylvania at the age of 55 years and was born September 8, 1961 in Pasadena, Texas. He is survived by his four daughters, Nicole P. and husband Jeff Holt and granddaughter Sasha of Fairfax, Virginia, Courtney R. Coates of Wayne, PA, Lindsay L. Coates of Port Neches, TX, and Morgan A. Coates of Port Neches, TX; Ricky’s father Ronald Coates of Houston, TX (and preceded in death by his mother Jacqueline Ann Coates); his sister Regina K. and husband Jeffrey P. Sciba of Houston, Texas; also Regina’s children Jason W. and wife Andrea Greagrey; their children Mallory, Hannah, and JJ of Friendswood, TX, Leah S. and husband Jeff Victory of Woodlands, TX and daughter Taylor; and Matthew V. Greagrey of Austin, TX; also, Rick’s grandmother Ruth Taylor, 96 years young of Seabrook, TX. Not included are multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins too many to count from both sides of the family.

Ricky graduated from Dobie High School, San Jacinto Jr. College, and from Texas A&M University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He later obtained an International Auditing License and his work took him all over the world. He loved the Great Outdoors and Beautiful Sunsets. His hobbies were many. To name a few, snow skiing, all kinds of music, the guitar, surfing, fishing, golf and Rick was an avid reader. Above all, he loved his family and especially his four daughters. His friendships lasted a lifetime. There was no such thing as a stranger to Rick, if he didn’t know you, he would before you could walk away and you would walk away feeling good. He always tried to find the good in people and bad situations that just arise in life.

Ricky accepted Christ as his savior at the age of twelve at East Haven Baptist Church which was the family church in those years. The family later moved membership to Sagemont Church. During those early years at Sagemont, questions arose in his heart regarding his salvation and he recommitted his life to Jesus during his fourteenth year of life.

The service celebrating Rick’s life will be held at 5:00pm Saturday, September 30, at Niday Funeral Home.
