Dr. John Alvin Kirschke, Jr.
July 7, 1937 - September 6, 2017
Dr. John Alvin Kirschke, Jr., age 80, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on September 6, 2017. He was born July 7, 1937 in Houston, Texas, to John Alvin Kirschke, Sr. and Marguerite Evelyn (McBride) Kirschke. On June 4, 1978, John married Carolyn Wilcoxon in San Antonio, Texas. He was a graduate of Texas A & M University, where he received his Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine. He practiced veterinary medicine in Boerne, Texas. John was a member of the Lion’s Club and a Scout leader in Boerne. He was also a member of Preston Trail Community Church in Frisco, Texas.
John, Johnny, Daddy, Dad, Doctor Kirschke, Uncle Johnny, Honey, Grandpa, Poppie are just a few of the ways his name was written on our hearts. He was a man who created so many memories for all who knew him.
He was the little brother to his sisters he adored. He became a father to three children he cherished. He also loved each of the nine children he raised. He took great delight in knowing, teaching, and experiencing life with all of his children and grandchildren. He cherished his wife every day. She was his person.
He was a man of adventures, some familiar to many: Gator hunting, frog gigging, snake hunting, jackrabbit hunting, coyote hunting, crabbing, gigging flounder, deer hunting. There were also adventures that only he could provide: hunting mountain lions with their special eyes, hunting wolver-wolves, snipe hunting, and hunting swamp monkeys.
He thrived on the thrill of living. He was the “hometown boy”, the scout leader, the town veterinarian. He enjoyed scuba diving, sky diving, flying at 14, snorkeling, motorcycle riding, snow skiing, and water skiing. He loved ranching, tractors, bonfires, waltz and country western dancing, as well as being a member of the Texas A&M fencing team.
He had many passions: caring for animals, teaching us to shoot, gardening, designing flowerbeds to express his creativity, painting chairs with mustard, as well as creating special treats like divinity, fudge, and all kinds of jams. He was an avid reader, lover of knowledge, loved movies, loved teaching and challenging anyone around to learn. He pushed all of our thinking as well as our buttons. His depth of knowledge mixed with his pranks made for some interesting, passion-filled debates. For this, we loved our jokester.
He had many, many chapters in his life. He was an 80-year-old teenager, who never wanted to grow old and never did. He was forever young.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Kirschke of McKinney, Texas; children, Kelly Kirschke and husband William of Denver, Colorado, children Nathan and Tristine; Karan Post and husband Jim of Rockport, Texas, children Steven Deer and Jennifer; John Alvin Kirschke, III and wife Monique of Jamul, California, and children Iain, Maverick, Beretta, and Remington; Catherine McGalliard of Longwood, Florida, children Rachel, Zac, and Chad; Michele Harper and husband Michael of Long Barn, California, children Shawna and Jake; John Schinke of Deltona, Florida, child Zane; Julie Bourne and husband Robert of Corona, California, children Jason and Kayla; Kathlyn Barnes of Midlothian, Texas, children Timothy and Karsen; Shannon McCorkle and husband Joe of Frisco, Texas children Aaron, Austin, and Andrew; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Ann Brown of Pineville, Arkansas and Barbara Charlyne Ward of Boerne, Texas; many other loving relatives and friends.
John is preceded in death by his father, John Kirschke Sr., mother Maggie Posell, and Kapitola Kirschke.

Dr. John Alvin Kirschke, Jr., age 80, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on September 6, 2017.
