Funeral Services for Sharon Marquardt will be held 12:00 PM Friday, September 15, 2017, at Grace Lutheran Church, 1007 Bacon Ranch Road in Killeen. Burial will follow at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Mother, Army Wife and Special Education Teacher, Sharon Gail Marquardt, 54, of Salado, died Thursday, September 7, 2017, in Houston. Sharon was born August 27, 1963 in Houston, Texas and married Kent Marquardt on August 10, 1985.
Sharon graduated high school from Cypress Creek in Houston in 1981. She graduated Texas A&M with a Marketing degree in 1985, where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. After Kent entered the Army, Sharon joined him at Fort Ord, California in 1985. Being an Army wife, she tackled the challenges of a series of assignments all over the world and the United States. A highlight was being assigned to Germany when the Berlin Wall came down in 1989. Sharon had the challenge of being an Army wife while raising Matthew (1990) and Sarah (1992); both born in Germany. In the Army, Sharon was highly involved in volunteer work with the Officer Wives Club, Army Community Service and Family Support Groups. After 21 years the couple retired at Fort Hood, Texas in 2005. After her Army wife career, in 2007 Sharon found her true calling as a well-respected Special Education Teacher at Harker Heights High School. The Marquardt's resided in Salado in their dream home since 2007.
Sharon was known for her sense of humor, tenacity, strength of mind, and selfless passion for others. She was well-loved by her family, friends, co-workers and acquaintances.
Survivors include her husband, LTC (Ret) Kent Marquardt; their son, Matthew; their daughter, Sarah; mother, Betty Savage; father, Robert Savage; sister, Susan McCoy and her husband Alan McCoy; nephews, Kenneth and Steven McCoy; mother and father in law, Kenneth and Suzanne Marquardt; sisters in law, Marianne and Brady Fly, Kimberly and Steve Nue; and nephew Jack and niece Kate Nue.
Sharon was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph and Lillian Brennan.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday. September 14, 2017, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killen.
