Joseph Alfred DeBakey, of Houston, passed away on Sunday, the 27th of August 2017.
Joe was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to Alfred and Betty DeBakey on the 12th of April 1962, and was raised in Houston. He is a member of the 1980 graduating class of Strake Jesuit College Preparatory High School. Joe is also a member of the 1984 graduating class from Texas A & M University in College Station, where he earned his BBA in Finance. He went on to earn a Juris Doctorate at St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio.
Joe was an attorney, and active in real estate investments. He was a parishioner at Our Lady of the Cedars Maronite Catholic Church, a lifelong parishioner of St. Michael Catholic Church, a member of the St. Michael Knights of Columbus and BraeBurn Country Club. Joe was so proud of his Lebanese Heritage and enjoyed being a part of the Lebanese Community. Joe was a talented organist, an avid golfer, and loved his Texas A & M Aggies. Joe's greatest love of his life was his family, especially his two daughters Isobel and Syriah.
Joe is survived by his wife Rebecca; his daughters Isobel and Syriah; his mother Betty DeBakey; his sisters Rosanna Borsch and her husband Steve, Diana Sparks and her husband Terry, Sharon Droubi and her husband Abdo Joseph, and Mary Solcher and her husband Tom; along with numerous loving nieces, nephews and relatives. Joseph is predeceased in death by his father Alfred DeBakey.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the afternoon until six o'clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 12th of September, at Our Lady of the Cedars Maronite Catholic Church, 11935 Bellfort Village Drive in Houston.
A recitation of the Holy Rosary will then commence at six o'clock followed at seven o'clock by the Funeral Mass celebrated by Fr. Milad T. Yaghi, MLM, Pastor.
The Meal of Mercy will immediately follow the service in the Cedar Hall adjacent to the church.
Honored to serve as pallbearers during the services are Tom Bevans, Louis Pisano, Brandon Bridwell, Chris Pesek, Anthony Lucci, MD, Robert Benter, Shible Simon and Kamal Ariss. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Mohammed Attar MD, Thomas Oley MD, Steve Borsch, Terry Sparks, Abdo Joseph Droubi, Tom Solcher and Eddie Rizk.
The Rite of Committal will take place at eleven o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 13th of September, at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Freeway in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Joe's name be directed to St. Michael Catholic School, 1833 Sage Rd., Houston, TX, 77056; Our Lady of the Cedars Maronite Catholic Church, 11935 Bellfort Village Dr., Houston, TX, 77031; or to the 12th Man Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 2800, College Station, TX 77841-2800.
