Obituary source unknown

HERBERT A. FOX Herbert A. Fox, 83, known to his family and friends as "H.A.," passed away peacefully on Aug. 17, 2017. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Lanatter; his two children, Jill Fox Trimble of Chevy Chase, Maryland, and Keith Fox of New York City; and his three grandchildren, Ware, Cassie, and Darby Trimble. Herb was a man of great integrity, passion, and intellect. He loved art, fine wine, golf, music, and architecture. A voracious reader with a keen intellect, Herb travelled the world both professionally and personally. His homes were filled with books, art, and most importantly, friends. He loved to entertain and was proud to be a fourth generation Texan and the son of a Houston cattle rancher. Herb retired as the president of Murphy Oil, USA in 2003, where he had a distinguished career of over 33 years. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in chemical engineering and was an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He held additional degrees from Harvard Business School and the University of Geneva. Herb stayed actively involved with his A&M family long after his graduation, most notably providing scholarship opportunities to chemical engineering students who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford an A&M education. He was a lifelong Democrat who embraced diversity. He will most be remembered for his straightforward tenets for living a rewarding and meaningful life: tell the truth, work hard, give back more than you receive, celebrate often, and pick up the check. He considered himself to be the luckiest man in the world and cherished his family and friends. A celebration of Herb's life will take place in Scottsdale on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Herb's honor be made to the Foothills Food Bank, P.O. Box 715, Carefree, AZ 85377.
