Lt. Col. USAR Dick Maney Jennison, (Retired)
Born: December 12, 1930
Died: August 31, 2017
Location: San Antonio, Texas

Lt. Col. USAR (Retired) Dick Maney Jennison, 86, passed away peacefully at his home early Thursday morning, August 31, 2017.
Born in Pearsall, Texas on December 12, 1930, he was the only son of H.W. (Mike) and Evelyn Jennison.
He graduated from Pearsall High School in 1948, then attended The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1952. During his senior year at A&M he served as Company Commander of A Infantry.
Dick, who served a tour in Korea in 1954-55, was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in March 1953 and served in the U.S. Army until 1957. A pilot, he retired from the U.S. Army Reserve, 90th ARCOM, in 1976 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
In the summer of 1949 he met his future wife, Glenda, on a blind date. They were married February 14, 1953 and recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.
After his release from the army, Dick began his career in the construction business with F.L. Scott and Son, which ultimately became Scott & Jennison. He spent 35 years in the industry, focusing primarily on the construction of churches and schools.
Dick served as president of the Associated General Contractors (AGC) San Antonio Chapter from 1973-74 and president of AGC-Texas Building Branch in 1986. In 1987, he began working for Luby's Cafeteria Inc., retiring as Vice President of Construction in December 1995.
Never one to sit still, he enjoyed flying his family and friends in a twin engine aircraft, running, sailing on Canyon Lake, snow skiing and cycling with friends.
After retirement, Dick applied his construction knowledge to his and Glenda's personal lives, starting with the construction of a woodworking shop for various projects and a greenhouse for Glenda. Dick took pride in designing and building a multitude of items he deemed "necessary" for family and friends.
Dick and Glenda are surrounded by a group of dear Supper Club friends who have been together almost 60 years, and who still meet monthly.
Dick was a longtime member of Beacon Hill Presbyterian Church and later First Presbyterian Church where he was a member of the church choir and The Friday Singers. Never wanting any limelight, he was known to be a bit out of character during some of those performances.
Believing a home should always have a dog, Dick had a special relationship with the family pets. He had a way of communicating with the dogs lucky enough to be under his care and taught them a multitude of tricks such as flipping Oreos or peanuts off their noses and singing songs upon command.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Robert Scott Wilson. He is survived by his loving wife Glenda; daughter Kathy Barbee and husband David; daughter Chrissy Wilson; grandchildren Kimberly Bradshaw and husband Brian; Kelly Wilson and Greg Wilson; great grandchildren Hayden and Gaines Bradshaw; and several nieces and nephews.

Dick's life will be honored in San Antonio Wednesday, September 13 with a private graveside service with military honors at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 404 N. Alamo Street. A reception will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517, or First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio.
