Malcolm Thomas(1921 - 2017)
Dr. Malcolm Cecil Thomas, 96, of Frederick, Maryland passed away peacefully on August 13, 2017 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the husband of Nelda Glynne James Thomas for 68 years before her passing in 2015.

Born on May 2, 1921 in Alamo, Georgia, he was the son of Zenus Oliver Thomas and Hattie Aletha Johnson.

Dr. Thomas was a graduate of Alamo, Georgia High School and the University of Georgia, receiving his Master of Science. During World War II he served in the Army, stationed in Occupied Japan. He began his career as an assistant County Agent in Waycross, Georgia and Glennville, Georgia. He spent one year in Bangkok, Thailand with USOM as a livestock advisor, and then returned to earn his Ph.D. at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas in Biochemistry and Nutrition. He was a member of the Honor Society of Agriculture Gamma Sigma Delta. He spent the rest of his career working for the Food and Drug Administration - Bureau of Veterinary Medicine, receiving honors and Letters of Commendation for forty years of service.

Malcolm was an active member of Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served as an usher for many years. He loved to work outside and took pride in his summer vegetable garden, and generously shared the produce with neighbors and friends. He enjoyed music, reading, travels, and being with family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter Betty Pauline Thomas, his son-in-law Keith Conover, and his grand-daughter Laurel Victoria Conover, and his brothers Paul Thomas of New Paltz, New York and Frank H. Thomas of Alamo, Georgia.

Private services will be held. Entombment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD. Arrangements entrusted to William Slater II Funeral Service, Pittsburgh, PA 15220.
