Delfino F. Garcia, Jr.
May 24, 1932 - August 12, 2017

Delfino Francisco Garcia Jr. passed away on August 12, 2017. Delfino was born on May 24, 1932 in Zapata, Texas to Delfino Francisco Garcia Sr. and Florinda Garcia Ramirez.

He graduated from Martin High School in Laredo, Texas and later attended Laredo Junior College before graduating from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas with a BS in Civil Engineering. He served in the Army for two years in Germany during the Korean War.

In 1958 he began working for The Texas Highway Department in Austin and married his high school sweetheart, Irma Olivia Garcia. He subsequently held positions in Alice, Texas as the area engineer for Jim Wells and Kleberg Counties before becoming the District Construction Engineer in Corpus Christi, Texas. He retired and continued doing consulting work in the area for several years, as well as work for FEMA during a natural disaster in Alabama.

Outside of his professional career he was a member of the Master Planners Organization, Rotary Club, Museum of South Texas and St. Elizabeth School Board. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and taught religious education for several years. He and his wife Irma were sponsors for engaged couples.

He is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Irma Olivia Garcia; children, Delfino Francisco III (Mary Ellen) and Rosella Carolina (Fronz) Batot. He is also survived by a brother, Gustavo Luis (Marina) Garcia, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Alicia Isabel Cantu, and brother-in-law, Israel Cantu.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel in Alice, Texas.

Holy Rosary and Mass will be recited beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church in Alice, Texas with Monsignor Leonard Pivonka celebrant.

Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Laredo, Texas.

The family wishes to thank Drs. Arup Achari, Christopher Finnila, David Wolf, Isaac Raijman, William Irr, and Annie Su; also Vitas Healthcare, Monsignor Leonard Pivonka and Holmgreen Mortuary for their care and attention.

In lieu of customary remembrances the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church or School, or a charity of choice.
