B.J. (Joe) Seale
May 22, 1928 – August 11, 2017

Was born and raised on a farm/ranch three miles NE of Kerens (Navarro County), Texas.

He was graduated from Kerens High School in May, 1945; the same high school from which both his parents were graduated in 1926.

He was a ninth generation Texan.

His parents were Homer Lewis and Grace (Cooper) Seale.

In June, 1945 he entered Texas A & M College and was graduated in January, 1950.

Accepting his first teaching job in Lorenzo (Crosby County), Texas in February, 1950 with the Veterans Vocational School. In June, 1951, he accepted a high school teaching position with the Hale Center (Hale County) Public Schools.

In March, 1950, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Streety, in the Immanuel Baptist Church in Paris, Texas. Recently they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.

The Korean Conflict was heating up in June, 1952. He was drafted into the military at that time. After induction and processing, he was transferred to Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri for training in The Combat Corps of Engineers.

After weeks of intensive training, he was chosen as the Outstanding Trainee and assigned as permanent Personnel in the company in which he received basic and advanced training. After receiving top honors in Cadre Leadership and a number of other schools, he received two meritorious promotions and was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant in his former training company.

Their daughter, Suzanne, was born at the Post Hospital at Ft. Leonard Wood.

After two years of military service, he was honorably discharged at Ft. Leonard Wood in June, 1954.

Following two years of teaching in the Winters Public Schools, he entered full time graduate study in East Texas State University. Only a few days before receiving his Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling, their son, Montgomery Shae, was born in Commerce, Texas.

Over the next seventeen years, he served as high school Counselor, Assistant Superintendent of the Corsicana Public Schools.

While with the Corsicana Public Schools, he served as President of the Texas Personnel and Guidance Association; Lt. Gov. of the Texas-Oklahoma Kiwanis International; State Advisor of the Texas Future Teachers of America; and, served on numerous charity boards. In 1968, the Corsicana Jaycees selected him as Corsicana's Man of the Year.

Both of their children are graduates of Corsicana High School. Their children and spouses live nearby in Austin, TX. They are: Mr. and Mrs. Daryl Kunze and Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery Shae Seale. He leaves behind many loved and cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

In 1975, he accepted the position of Director of Instructional Services with the Texas State Teachers Association. Four years later, he was named Assistant Director of the Texas Association of Community Schools and served the remaining ten years as the Executive Director. After forty years of military service and serving the public schools of Texas, he retired in 1990.

At the age of nine, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. That acceptance set the tone of his life. He was fair, honest and charitable with all whom he worked and met. He made a special effort to be a reliable and trustworthy neighbor.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Seale, daughter, Suzanne Kunze (Daryl), son, Shae Seale (Pam). His sisters, deceased Jean Pierce (Wayne, widower) of Dallas, TX, and Thel Cummins (Bill) of Elgin, OK. He leaves behind many loved and cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

His priorities in life were: God, his family, his chosen profession, his neighbors, and other loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that you contribute to and support those organizations that tend to the needy.

A Memorial service will be held at Hyde Park Baptist Church Chapel, 3901 Speedway, in Austin, Texas, 78751, on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
