Marlowe Bennett
Bennett, Marlowe Dwayne

Marlowe Dwayne Bennett, age 90, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017. "Papa" as he was known to his family, was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Velma, who passed away in August of 2014. He is survived by their daughter, Becky Bennett and her husband, Bo Frazier; granddaughter, Heather LeChien and her husband, Keith; granddaughter, Hayley Burnham and her husband, Matt; and five great-grandchildren, Avery, August, Bennett, Austin, and Aubrey. Dwayne was born September 2, 1926 in Brownfield, Texas. He grew up in Pecos, Texas and graduated from Pecos High School in 1943. He earned a Bachelor of Science and then a Master's degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Texas A&M. His undergraduate years were interrupted after WWII when he was called to serve a tour of duty in Europe with the Army (30th Infantry Regiment, Counterintelligence Corp.) He was honorably discharged in January 1947. In May of 1948 he became a licensed pilot for single engine private aircraft. After marrying Velma Jean Cummings in Barstow, Texas (June 1949) they moved to Daingerfield, Texas where Dwayne was employed by Ordnance Aerophysics Laboratory and then to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1957 where he was employed by Sandia National Laboratory from 1957-1989. Dwayne was also an adjunct professor of Engineering at the University of New Mexico in the early 1960's. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

Per his wishes there will be no Memorial Service. His ashes will be spread on the trail at the base of the Sandia Mountains where he loved to walk every morning. Rest in peace, Papa, we will try to "keep up the good work!" Please visit our online guestbook for Marlowe at
