Judge Robert Tug Pfeuffer

The Honorable Judge Robert Tug Pfeuffer, a lifelong resident of New Braunfels, Texas, went home to his lord and savior Jesus Christ on July 30, 2017. He was 80 years old. A memorial service is to be held at the First United Methodist Church in New Braunfels, Texas at 2pm on Thursday, August 3, 2017. A celebration of life will follow the service.

Born on May 15, 1937 to Laura Mildred Gode Pfeuffer and Tug Somers Pfeuffer in New Braunfels, Texas. Bob was a 5th generation Texan whose roots ran deep in South Central Texas. He was the president of the New Braunfels High School graduating class of 1955, and he truly valued the friendships that he maintained with many of his classmates throughout his life – you know who you are! Bob graduated from Texas A&M University in 1959 where he proudly served in the Corps of Cadets with several of those same friends. After graduating from law school at the University of Texas, Bob began his career as an attorney for the US Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps. In 1965, with his military obligation complete, Bob returned to New Braunfels to practice private law with the firm of Bartram, Reagan & Burrus. In 1973, Governor Dolph Briscoe appointed him as the first Judge of the 207th Judicial District Court. Bob served as district court judge for 21 years, presiding over Comal, Hays and Caldwell Counties. He was widely regarded as a fair and unbiased judge by not only his peers, but by the legal community that surrounded him. Following retirement from the elected bench at the end of 1994, Bob served on special assignment as a visiting judge and joined his son David’s law firm, Brazle & Pfeuffer in a senior counsel role. Bob had clearly inherited his commitment to leadership and civic duty from his great-grandfather, George Pfeuffer, who had served as Comal County Judge, Texas State Senator and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Texas A&M College.

Bob married his high school sweetheart, Jean Louise Hillje, on March 24, 1959. After the births of their three children, they made their family home on Huaco Springs Ranch, which was originally homesteaded by Bob’s grandfather, Robert Joseph Gode in 1923. Together, Jean and Bob shared a special love of their ranch, of traveling the world, and of serving their community. Specifically, Bob was a past-president of the New Braunfels Noon Lions Club, the Comal County Bar Association, and the Comal County Fair Association. He was a founding member of the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Central Texas. He was also a very active member in the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce and the First United Methodist Church. Lastly, Bob was a founding member and the first president of the Hill Country Orchid Society in New Braunfels and was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association.

Bob was a mentor, a source of confidence, a leader and a friend. The tales he told, whether small or tall, would keep his audiences riveted. His family would dearly love for you to share your favorite story, picture or video of Bob with them. You may do so by emailing the family at PfeufferFamilyNB@gmail.com.

Judge Robert Tug Pfeuffer is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Hillje Pfeuffer. He is also survived by his son, Michael Somers Pfeuffer and his wife Carlyn Dugan Pfeuffer and their daughters, Katie Frances Pfeuffer and Laura Michelle Pfeuffer; by his son, David Gregory Pfeuffer and his wife Tammy Kay Pfeuffer, and their daughters Erika Somers Pfeuffer and Emma Jenny Pfeuffer; and, by his daughter, Susan Gode Pfeuffer and her children, Emily Tate Pfeuffer Bunch, Ian Robert Pfeuffer Bunch and Aidan Everett Pfeuffer Bunch.

His family greatly appreciates the love and care shown him by Dr. Bill Reeves, Dr. Ted Trusevich and Dr. Bill Lee. The family would also like to thank Mr. Douglas Meuth for being a source of constant comfort and companionship in Bob’s last days. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that donations be made to: The Honorable Judge Robert T. Pfeuffer Civic Leadership Scholarship Fund at the New Braunfels Community Foundation (www.nbacf.org) where the funds will support college scholarships to Comal County high school graduates.

Papa, you will truly be missed by all who were privileged to know you. We love you.
