Walter August Bendele, Jr. was born to Walter August Bendele Sr. and Lorene Sauter Bendele on December 22, 1949 in Hondo, Texas. He succumbed to the complications of Glioblastoma Multiforma on July 25, 2017 at Vitas Hospice in San Antonio, Texas. He was predeceased by his grandparents Armin and Emilie Leinweber Bendele; Tobias and Angelina Fohn Sauter; and his parents. He is survived by his daughter Jacquelyn Bendele and son, Benjamin Bendele; granddaughters Lillyth, Evelyn, and Gwendolyn Sanchez, sisters Marilyn Baerenstecher (Kurt) and Kathy Brieden Flinn; nieces, nephews; grand nieces and nephews; cousins, and countless friends that supported him with limitless acts of kindness.

Walter was educated at St. John's Elementary School, Hondo High School, and received his Bachelor's Degree from Texas A & M University. He remained a proud "Fightin' Texas Aggie" throughout his adult life. He regaled friends, customers at Mumme's and family with his legendary accounts and jokes, always the consummate story teller. He oversaw the operations at the MKW Bendele Ranch and remained a steadfast keeper of the land/range management. As a passionate teacher of outdoor ranch activities, particularly hunting and gun etiquette, his protégés appreciated his wisdom and love of our Texas resources. During his recent illness, he was rewarded with numerous friends and family who showered him with love and thoughtful gestures. Walt will be greatly missed.

Services: Funeral mass will be at St. John's Catholic Church at 11:00 on July 28 in Hondo.
