James Keeter Sr
(November 16, 1933 - July 16, 2017)

James “Jim” Edwin Keeter, Sr. went to his Lord on July 16, 2017. He was born in Edinburg, Texas, on November 16, 1933. He was preceded in death by his mother and father H.C. Keeter, Sr. and Louie Lee Keeter, brothers H.C. Keeter, Jr., and Thomas Lee Keeter, and sister Jackie Steinbring. Jim’s family moved to Alamo Heights in 1938 and he attended kindergarten through high school in Alamo Heights. Jim entered Texas A&M University in 1952 and was a proud member of the Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets. Jim and Carol were married in 1955. Upon graduation in 1956, Jim was commissioned a Lt. in the U.S. Air Force. Jim did his flight training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio and was then transferred to Strategic Air Command, 804th air base group in Savannah, Georgia, under the command of General LeMay. In 1960, Jim and wife Carol, along with their new daughter, Kimberly, moved back to San Antonio. Not long after arriving in San Antonio, Jim Jr. was born in late 1960. Jim Sr. soon began what was to become a very successful landscape architectural career. In 1976, Jim was inducted as a Fellow into the American Society of Landscape Architects, for service to the society and professional excellence. The society was founded in 1899, and when Jim was inducted there were approximately 600 inductees. He was the youngest inductee and very proud to have received that honor. Jim served on the Board of Architectural Examiners for the state of Texas for numerous years. He was also very active with the School of Architecture at Texas A&M University. He and Carol enjoyed hosting countless groups of students, and taking them to projects both complete and under construction. During Jim’s illustrious career he received too many awards to list. The list of his projects dots the entire country and includes residential, commercial, and ranch projects. To list a few of his most notable projects: the San Antonio River Walk, Hemisphere ’68, San Antonio River Extension, Campuses for USAA, Valero, Tesoro, NuStar, HEB, World Savings, Security Services, American Fund Group, St. Mary’s University, Fiesta Texas, Cypress Gardens at Sea World, Marktplatz in Fredericksburg, La Cantera Golf Courses 1&2, the Golf Academy at La Cantera, and the Westin La Cantera, to name just a few. Throughout Jim’s career it was normal for clients to become close, lifelong, family friends. Jim always said he would not have been able to accomplish nearly as much had it not been for his loving wife’s help and assistance spanning 62 years.
Jim’s passing has left a large void for those who knew and loved him. He was secure in his relationship with his Lord and Heavenly Father, so we can find solace in the knowledge that we will see him again with his Lord.

Mr. Keeter is survived by his wife Patricia “Carol” Keeter, daughter Kimberly Stoner and husband Tim of Boerne, son Jim Keeter Jr. and wife Kim of Fredericksburg; brother in-law Cliff Steinbring of Cave Creek, as well as 5 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his Parents Homer C. Sr and Louie Lee Keeter, brothers Homer Keeter Jr., Tom Keeter and sister Jackie Steinbring.
