Robert John Drawe, Jr.

Born:
January 5, 1931 Cleveland, Ohio
Passed Away:
March 20, 2017 Denver, Colorado

Robert John Drawe, Jr. was born to Robert John Drawe, Sr. and Hazel Drawe on January 5, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio. Imagine passing away at age 86 on the first day of Spring, March 20, 2017, (Webster’s identifies it as the earliest and most promising period in the life of something or someone). He is survived by two distant cousins and his adopted Denver, Colorado family of 48 years. Those who remain to grieve and hold his memory are Edytha Lesuer, Lucinda (Lesuer) & Edd Brown, Lisa Lesuer, Nathan Glasco, Daniel, Andrew and Cameron Lesuer as well as a wealth of friends.

In September 1969, Edytha Lesuer was hired by Bob at Internal Revenue Service. Both of their elderly mothers required special care, bringing Bob and Hazel Drawe into a Lesuer family relationship, which has lasted for 48 years. In addition to parental care, we have helped one another with renovation of each of our properties, traveled extensively over the years from the East Coast to the West Coast, Hawaii, Europe, the Virgin and Cayman Islands, and the Bahamas. Bob’s parents were included and are buried in Aurora, Colorado. We have shared SO much living and so much love!

“Rest in peace,” how much this says, be free of pain no more to weep. Find joy that never ends, possess new life that here you could not keep. Rest in peace, and though we grieve, reaching for your hand in vain, our faith is such that we believe that all of us shall meet again. Your gentle touch remains upon the hearts of those who loved you best.

Bob’s early life was jam-packed with studies and activities that served him and others throughout his life. He excelled in whatever challenged him . . . his desire to become an asset to his country through his graduation from Texas A&M as a Second and First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army at Etajima Island, Japan, 25th Infantry Division in Korea, Hawaiian Division serving as an Artillery Forward Observer; his Ham Radio Licensing in the USA and Mexico; his friendship with his acquaintances in Mexico and capture of the language; his Master’s Degree was earned in Mexico; his myriad of interests and hobbies such as Science, bird watching; the emergence into the Technology Era; his Federal Government Service with the IRS in Houston, El Paso and Denver and with the Department of Energy. Bob’s knowledge gleaned from his IRS experience enabled him to render service to Honduras as an advisor to the government of Honduras for tax matters. He coauthored a book with them in the 1960’s; his ownership and great enjoyment of two airplanes to pilot alone or in formation with others; his love for the out of doors, enjoying the drives and selecting the perfect camping sites; his volunteer efforts as a Loan Officer for U.S. Consolidated Federal Credit Union; toward construction of the Pine, Colorado Fire Station and their many community benefits, such as their annual fundraising auctions and wonderful BPIA (Buffalo Park Improvement Association) events; by effecting a grant from the Jefferson County Library to the Pine Library, opening it up to the use of the community as well as organizing Pine historical facts and assistance with the small Pine Cemetery. He also held office within the local RNC and AARP. Not the least of his accomplishments were his ability to retire at age 46, and through his financial savvy live a great life in the most lovely hamlet in the world located on the North Fork of the South Platte River . . . the choice of President Eisenhower’s fishing vacations.

Through his mother’s annual efforts we are provided a lifetime of pictures, newspaper clippings and awards which is impressive and enabled us to elaborate. Bob’s career began in Phoenix, Arizona when he was 10 years old with a commendation letter from Franklin D. Roosevelt for valuable wartime services in School Safety Patrols sponsored by AAA. That award was followed a year later in 1942 with another from Phoenix Public Schools recommending him as an efficient worker, both in the classroom and on the Junior Police Force. On July 23, 1943, a compliment from Magnolia Bread Company said “This is to certify that Bobby Drawe has been in our employ for quite some time and we always found him reliable, capable and dependable at all times. Together with all these qualifications we have also found him to be honest.” Many certificates followed from Harlingen Elementary School, Junior High School, Motorcycle Club, Boy Scouts, Honorary Science Award Medal from Bausch and Lomb; Bob’s election as President of the Science Club at age 16, where he remained for some time. Order of DeMolay, Master Counselor; and a member of the Texas A&M Singing Cadets.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to these two Pine Grove area non profits that Bob was very involved with!

Don’t ever seek me at my grave
Expecting you will find me there.

Nor yet go there to weep or pray
And hope that I will hear your prayer.

But seek instead some windswept hill
Where prairie showers rendezvous.

And where the blazing sun is wont
To pause, before it slips from view.

And go you there at eventide
When meadowlarks their raptures trill.

And there . . . if you should speak my name . . .
Then I will hear you on the hill.

Or walk some lonesome prairie path
Where pheasant cockerels greet the day.

Where timid quail their “Bob Whites” cry
And wild eyed rabbits hop and play.

And if you feel a phantom breeze
Caress your cheek or touch your hair.

But yet you know there is no breeze
Then know ‘tis I beside you there.

Or if a rustle in the grass
Betokens footsteps not your own.

Then know that I, too, walk the plains
And then you do not walk alone.
