Dr Donald Nicholas
August 13, 1926 ~ July 8, 2017 (age 90)
Colonel Donald Nicholas, 90, passed away on July 8, 2017.
Donald Nicholas was born on August 13, 1926 to Roy and Birdie (Mitchell) Nicholas. He grew up in Fort Worth. As a child, Donald was a major athlete and once won a Duncan yo-yo competition. As a teen, he loved tennis. Donald graduated from Mineral Wells High
School and went on to graduate from Texas A&M in 1948. Because education was so important to Donald, he returned to school and received his Masters Degree from George Washington University in 1964. Donald was a pilot for the US Air Force until his retirement
in 1976. He flew B47, B52, and F13III bombers.
Donald married Mary Elizabeth McLaughlin in 1952 and the two were blessed with four children: Jacquelyn Nicholas Duplantis, Kirk Mitchell, Donald Arthur, and Gregory Martin Nicholas. Ensuring his children were well educated was a top priority for Donald. Another
major focus for him was physical health, which was why until the age of 88 he could be found in the gym daily. Tennis, bike riding, and most outdoor activities were hobbies of Donald. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, the “Been Shot at”
Group, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the A&M athletic Alumni Club.
