Colonel Lester W. Raab, U.S.A.F. Ret.
Born: December 8, 1924
Died: July 10, 2017
Location: Austin, Texas

Colonel Lester W. Raab, U.S.A.F., Retired, passed away July 10, 2017, in Austin, Texas. He was 92. Dr. Raab was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Ruth, his parents John and Mary (Gaust) Raab, and brothers, Edgar Raab and Clarence Raab. He is survived by his son Denis (Diane) Raab, daughter Karen (Tom Coplen) Cunningham, son Steve (Judy) Raab, and his granddaughters Rheannon (James Murff) Cunningham, Summer (Chris) Endraske, Tiffany Cunningham, Sonya (Elizabeth Fish) Cunningham Fish, Christina (Dan) Barker, and six great-grandchildren.

Dr. Raab was born December 8, 1924, in Moulton, Texas. He was the quintessential self-made man, having worked his way through Texas A&M University and earning his D.D.S. in 1947 from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. While in dental school, Les met his future wife, Ruth Tydeman, on a blind date. Les and Ruth married on April 20, 1948, and set out for a life of travel and adventure while Les practiced dentistry during his service in the U.S. Air Force. Among his many stations while serving his country, Dr. Raab was fortunate to be stationed in Morocco and Japan, enabling the family to travel the world. Dr. Raab retired from military service in San Antonio, Texas in 1977. Les and Ruth continued to travel extensively throughout the U.S. after Dr. Raab retired from the Air Force. In his retirement, Dr. Raab also enjoyed spending time with his family and working on a family ranch in his hometown of Moulton, and he very much appreciated the day-to-day ranch management provided by his brother, Clarence, and nephew, James Raab.

Visitation and Rosary will be held Thursday, July 13, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm at Weed-Corley Fish-Lake Travis, 411 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, Texas. A funeral liturgy and mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 14, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 601 N. Pecan Drive, Moulton, Texas.
