Harold Dean Witcher
(October 2, 1923 - June 12, 2017)

Honey Grove- Harold Dean Witcher, Sr. DVM, 93, of Honey Grove passed away Monday, June 12, 2017, at Honey Grove Nursing Center. Graveside services are scheduled for Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Vineyard Grove Cemetery in the Allens Chapel community at 2:00 PM. Reverend Marty Hutchings will officiate.

Harold Dean Witcher, Sr. (Doc) was born on October 2, 1923, in the Allens Chapel community to Alvin Dean Witcher and Mary Catherine (Johnson) Witcher. He served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during World War II where he received the American Theater Campaign Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with three bronze stars, a good conduct medal, a bronze star medal, a victory ribbon and two overseas service bars. He recieved a doctor of veterinary medicine degree in 1952. Doc also owned and operated his own veterinary business for fifty-seven years.

He is survived by his wife Judy Witcher of the home in the Allens Chapel community, son H.D. “Thump” Witcher, Jr. and wife Patti of the Allens Chapel community, son William Kent Alexander of the Allens Chapel community, sister Reba Alice Cummins of The Woodlands, TX, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several cousins.

Dr. Witcher was preceded in death by his parents, sister Billy June Smith and son Michael Bruce Witcher.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Stallings, Brad Jones, Jerry Magness, Alton Hainline, Francis Moran, and Harry Jones. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be B.J. Stallings, Murray Jackson, Harold Shockley, Walter Don Brown, Duane “Doodle” Gibbs, and Mark Walker.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Vineyard Grove Cemetery.
