Bob Bradley, 87, passed away suddenly while vacationing with his family in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. He is preceded by his parents, Mayme and Carl, and brothers Carl Jr. and Wayne.
Bob was born in Washington DC and soon after moved with is family to Mission, TX to live with Bob's grandmother Mabbo on her citrus farm. Later they relocated to Houston for better opportunity, where Bob graduated from San Jacinto High School. In 1951, Bob graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering, and a commission of Lieutenant. At TAMU, he was a member of C Battery Field Artillery (ROTC), where he made many life-long friends. He also received the honor of being invited to join the Ross Volunteers honor guard, and the Tau Beta Pi engineering society. Soon after graduation Bob was called up to serve in North Korea with the 82nd Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division. While stationed in Hokkaido, Japan he trained to become an instructor with the Cold Weather Battalion, where Dad was introduced to the joy of skiing.
Bob started his career as a petroleum process engineer with Magnolia Oil and remained with the firm as it became Mobil Oil. In 1960 he transferred to Mobil headquarters in Manhattan with his bride, Janet. In Manhattan, Bob held positions in international planning, economics, and supply. During his tenure he traveled to Mobil facilities in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Dad retired from Mobil in 1987.
Fore-shadowing his life-long love of learning, Bob returned to school after serving in Korea. It was at Lamar University that Bob met Janet in 1957. The two dated, fell in love, and were married on June 18, 1960 in Port Arthur, TX. After their honeymoon the two experienced city life as a new couple in Manhattan, and loved it. Expecting their first child they moved out to Hartsdale NY, then settled in Norwalk in 1963.
Bob and Janet are members of Shore and Country Club and Silvermine Golf Club. He enjoyed poker, bridge, tennis golf, and eating gourmet cooking. Together with Janet, Bob traveled to visit with their children and grandchildren, and farther afield to Mexico Alaska, France, Switzerland and Germany. Together they joined St. Phillips Church at its founding in 1968, where Bob volunteered as lay reader, funeral server and also on the Finance Committee.
Bob is survived by his wife and their two sons, Michael (Kellie) and Andrew (Jenna); six grandchildren, Jake (Ashley), Jillian (Justin), Brooke (Nicholas), Michelle (Andrew), Liam and Aidan; and seven great-grandchildren, Alaina, Silas, Micah, Piper, Quinn, Kennedy, and Sawyer.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Phillips Church at 10 a.m. on July 6 with a reception to follow.
