Stephen George Seifert left us here on Earth much too soon, due to natural causes, to join his God in
heaven June 23, 2017. Born on November 16, 1961 in Houston, to Anton James and Joan Seifert, and
raised in San Antonio, Steve distinguished himself as both an outstanding student and athlete. Having
come from a UT family he naturally headed to Texas A&M, entering with aspirations of being an engineer,
and exiting with both a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an acceptance to UT Houston Medical
School. After completing a surgical internship at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington DC, he
felt the call of duty and joined the Navy as a Flight Surgeon, was stationed at Oceana Naval Air Base in
Virginia Beach and attached to the USS Dwight D Eisenhower. He was aboard when it became only the
2nd nuclear powered air craft carrier to travel through the Suez Canal and the 1st to conduct sustained
operations in the Red Sea, both of which occurred during the Gulf War. During this time, Steve also
managed to squeeze in a wedding to his fellow UT Houston graduate Sandy Eareckson one day after his
Flight Surgery Wings were pinned on, and 2 weeks before he shipped out for his first tour of duty on the
Eisenhower.
At the end of his 3 year active duty commitment, Steve was drawn back to Texas, and he and Sandy
moved to El Paso where he completed an Emergency Medicine residency at Texas Tech Health Science
Center. After a brief move to San Antonio, they finally found their true home in San Angelo in 1997.
During their Texas hop-scotching days, they happily welcomed 3 children, Leif, Logan and Leah, one
born in each of these Texas cities.
Steve was not only a dedicated Emergency Medicine Physician at Shannon Medical Center, he also
had served as its Assistant Medical Director, and was currently the Medical Director of the San Angelo
Fire Department, the Carlsbad Volunteer Fire Department, the Grape Creek Fire Department, The San
Angelo Public Health Department and the Howard College EMT Training Program, and Tactical Physician
of the San Angelo Police Department. As this was not enough to keep him occupied, in his 'spare time'
he also created and developed a vineyard and winery, Seifert Cellars, which was featured in a Shannon
Stories ad with his trusty rat terrier Spooky.
Steve had a great sense of adventure and gumption, making journeys involving trains, planes, boats
and segways a surprising experience for both reluctant and eager participants. He had a quick wit and a
dry sense of humor, and his advice was usually backed up by an impressive amount of research,
occasionally to the exasperation of his children. But most importantly, he was dedicated to his family.
Through their 20 year marriage, and peaceful 6 year post marriage, Steve and Sandy were blessed to
see Leif and Leah grow to be strong, intelligent, caring adults. He wholeheartedly supported his
children's dreams, was a caring son and sibling, a steady co-parent, and a devoted friend. His generous
and loyal presence is felt even more, now that it is gone.
Steve is preceded in death by a son, Joshua Logan Seifert, Mother-in-law Joyce Virginia Eareckson
and Father-in-law John Leif Eareckson.
He is survived by a son, Leif Eareckson Seifert, daughter Virginia Leah Seifert, parents Anton James and
Joan Seifert, sister Cindi and husband James Beere, brother Jim and wife Wanda Seifert, nieces and
nephews Blake Beere, Theresea Seifert Buckley and husband Christopher, Clarissa Seifert, Caleb Seifert
and Colette Seifert, co-parent Saundra Eareckson Seifert, and dear friend and sidekick Karen Hansen.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2pm at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, San Angelo,
Texas. The family is grateful for the outpouring of love and support it has received. If any desire to make
a donation in memory of Steve, we respectfully suggest those organizations that have been meaningful
to his children and to him, Ballet San Angelo, San Angelo Performing Arts Center, Student Scholarship
Fund for Game Worlds (gameworldscamp.com/product/sponsor-a-student/), or any organization
supporting arts and sciences education.
