Herbert (Herb) Klein, passed away peacefully June 13th 2017. He was born April 6, 1930 in Columbus, TX, the youngest child of Clara and Charles Klein. He spent his childhood in Columbus, "the town of live oaks and live folks." At a very young age, he took pride
in his paper route that he delivered in his Model "A" Ford; and at the age of fourteen, he would run his parent's family business, Chas.Klein's Dry Goods Store, when they would travel. He graduated Columbus High School and was a letterman on the Columbus Cardinal's
1946 football team that won the state championship, still a Columbus celebrated event. He followed in his father's footsteps to become an Eagle Scout. Herbert attended Texas A&M, served in the Corps of Cadets and then entered the Air Force as a First Lieutenant
in the Korean War. After his military career, he forged a longtime living in accounting and real estate, retiring at age 80. He met and married the love of his life, Charlotte "Lolly" Shapiro, and together they shared a life of love and devotion for 62 years.
They were blessed with two children, daughter Leslie and son Harry, three granddaughters, Bayla and Cyra "Coco" Pidgeon, and Charlie Ann Klein. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. He was an avid sports
enthusiast, master of the kitchen and an accomplished gardener. His friends always referred to him as a kind person and a true gentleman. Herbert is preceded in death by his parents Clara and Charles Klein, and sister Maxine Wishnow. He is survived by his
wife, Charlotte Klein, daughter Leslie (Steven) Pidgeon, son Harry Klein, sister Evelyn (Klein) Eneman; and granddaughters Bayla Pidgeon, Cyra "Coco" Pidgeon and Charlie Ann Klein; sister in law Jeanette Finger, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Herb will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 15th at 11:00 am, at Beth Yeshurun Cemetery, Allen Parkway officiated by Rabbi David Lyon.
