Robert “Buff” Milton Buffington, Jr., 80, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017.

Buff was born July 30, 1936, in Ben Arnold, Texas, to Robert Milton Sr. and Opal Moselet (Brod) Buffington. He was the oldest of two boys, his brother John Lee Buffington was born in 1940. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1954 and then went on to graduate from The University of Texas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1959. After graduation, Buff went on to serve our country in the Army where he was honored with the rank of Sergeant as a member of the 25th Signal Battalion, primarily stationed in Germany. Buff returned to school and got a second Bachelors degree in Science and Sociology from Texas A & M in 1972.

Buff married Phyllis Josephine Nitch on January 31, 1964. Except for Jesus, she and their kids were whom he loved most in life. He loved to work with wood and metal and could build just about anything. Buff raised chickens, ducks, and goats and was also a beekeeper. Even more, he liked spoiling his grandchildren. He loved having fun and spending time with friends and family.

Until he retired in 2006, Buff was a grand vice president of marketing in the Order of the Sons of Hermann in Texas, A Fraternal Life Insurance Company. Buff was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as lector and communion minister. He also was a member of the Order of the Sons of Hermann, where he served as president for many years. An official member of the “Old Geezer Coffee Club of the Downtown Bryan Dairy Queen,” he will be missed.

Buff leaves behind his loving wife, Phyllis, his daughter and son in law Manya Felicia and John Wayne Newell, son and daughter-in-law Avery Demetrius and Christine Chaney Buffington, grandchildren Camron Wayne and Alexander Robert Newell and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Father and brother John Lee.

A visitation will be held from 5-8 on Thursday, June 8, 2017 with a Rosary to be recited beginning at 6:30 PM at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan.
