Jerry was born in San Antonio and graduated from Harlandale H. S. At Texas A&M, Jerry was a member of the infamous Spider D of the Corps of Cadets. Despite that, Jerry graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1967. After graduation, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Great Falls, MT. Once out of the Air Force, he applied the values he learned as a Boy Scout and as an Aggie in his new profession. His career in veterinary medicine spanned 50 years and took him from San Antonio to Georgetown to California to Corpus Christi to Weatherford and eventually to Boca Chica Animal Hospital in Brownsville. Jerry was interested to know everyone who crossed his path and easily made friends anywhere. It was also his honor to mentor new and aspiring veterinarians.

Jerry’s great passions, outside of his family, were saltwater fishing and bird hunting. As a conservationist, he loved introducing young people to the joys and responsibilities of both pursuits. Bird hunting also gave Jerry’s dogs the opportunity to live their best life. He appreciated the partnership and noble heart required for success. He owned and bred winning pointing Labs and Jack Russell Terriers, as well as cutting and race horses.

As his mother before him, Jerry was an accomplished cook. His affection for family and friends was demonstrated by cooking, usually barbeque but also fish or wild game.
Jerry was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate enough to have known him.

Survivors include his wife, Stephanie; his sons: Joe, Glenn (Marissa) Stanfield; daughter, Sally (Mark) Armstrong; and grandchildren: Dean Stanfield, Bodie, Brylee, and Brooklyn Stanfield and Max and Mary Armstrong.

Memorial gifts in Jerry’s name may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 502 West 26th St., Bryan, TX 77803; 1-800-824-2326; www.hospicebrazosvalley.org or to the charity of your choice.
