Alfred John Marek passed away on April 27, 2017 after a two year battle with cancer at the age of 90. Alfred was born on May 8, 1926 in West, Texas, one of the identical elder twins of Joseph and Catherine Marek. Upon high school graduation, he enlisted in the Navy in 1944 where he was assigned to an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. A proud Texas A&M graduate, Alfred earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1949. Alfred had a long and successful career in the field of aerospace and electrical engineering with Vought Corporation, assigned to the NASA space program for 32 years. He and his peers were responsible for 112 successful launches of scientific spacecraft into earth's orbit from Wallops Island, VA., Vandenberg, CA., and Kenya Africa. He retired as an Engineering Manager after 38 years of service.

On September 27, 1952 Alfred married his wife of 64 years, Mary Louise Giesen, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in downtown Dallas. Together they raised three children; Larry, Karen, and Patti. Alfred was a charter member of St. Monica Catholic Church which he attended for about 62 years and volunteered his time there during retirement. Alfred loved life, telling jokes, having fun and socializing. He enjoyed games, sports, playing cards and reading. Being a close family, he especially enjoyed time with his children. He played tennis with Patti, golf and tennis with Larry, and was known to frequent three libraries in a day with Karen. Although an engineer, he was artistic and enjoyed painting with water colors. After retiring, he and Mary Louise traveled extensively in the US, Europe and the Caribbean. They also spent time taking care of the grandchildren in Houston and College Station.

Alfred was an inspiration to his children and his grandchildren as all of them have followed in his footsteps and attended his Alma Mater. He was loved and appreciated and will be missed by his family and friends.

Alfred is preceded in death by his brother, Benjamin and granddaughter Brittany Blanton. He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise, son Larry and wife Patti, daughter Karen and husband Herb Rohloff, daughter Patti and husband Jeff Blanton, his twin brother Albert and wife Terry, his sister Irene Grieco, sister-in-law Pat Marek, granddaughter Nicole and husband Matt Faldyn, grandson Chad Blanton, granddaughter Heather Blanton and great-granddaughter Ava Faldyn, extended family Nicole, Terry, Ashley, and Austin Gregory, Katelyn Rohloff, Chris Rohloff and wife Maria, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
