H. Chester Jones Jr., 79, of Bryan, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at CHI St. Joseph Hospital Bryan, Texas. Chester's family invites you to the visitation on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 5 to 7 pm at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Services will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 2 pm at the funeral home. The burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Bryan.

Preceding him in death are his parents H. Chester and Aline Jones; his father and mother in law, Sam and Virginia Pate; his sisters-in-law Helen Bailey and husband Bill, Betty Nell Wilkerson and husband Lonnie, and nephew Drew Pate.

He is survived by his life-long sweetheart and wife of sixty years, Martha Ray Pate Jones; his son Dr. Michael E. Jones and wife Marianne; his daughter Ginger Jones Bumguardner and husband Clint; his 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; his brothers-in-law Sammy Pate and wife Judy of Las Vegas, NV and David Pate and wife Bonnie of Bryan; many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Chester was born on March 26, 1938, in Jacksonville, Texas. Raised in Bryan, Chester graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1956. While attending high school, Chester joined the National Guard and served seven and half years. He graduated from Allen Military Academy on a Baseball Scholarship in 1958 and Texas A&M University in May 1962, with a Degree in Business Administration. He served 2-years as a Lieutenant U.S. Army Air Defense Artillery officer. After the army Chester worked in the building materials industry, computer industry and the appraisal business until his retirement.

Chester was an active member at Central Baptist Church. He not only served as the church treasurer and trustee for many years and on varies committees, but also served as the deacon chairman, Sunday school department director, sang in the choir, and chaired the building committee for the Christian Life Center. Chester was active in the community by serving on the Health For All Board and The Bridge Ministries Board.

Chester was know for his wonderful sense of humor, playing forty-two, and loving his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Interment will follow at the Old Bethel Cemetery.
