Edward Louis Rice was born in Conroe, Texas on July 26, 1958 to Fred Rice and Helen Harris. Upon his death, he was a resident of Dallas, Texas. Edward lost his long battle with prostate cancer and passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on April 6, 2017 at the young age of 58. Edward received his Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Texas A & M University in 1982. He attended law school at the University of Houston where he was selected as an Editor for the University of Houston Law Review. Upon graduation, he served as a briefing attorney for the Chief Justice of the 14th Court of Appeals in Houston. He then entered private practice as a litigator for a large San Antonio law firm representing large corporations in both Federal and State trial and appellate courts. He moved to Dallas in 1995 and continued to practice in trial courts and handling appeals. He practiced with the law firm of Burdette & Rice from 1996 until his death.

He was a well respected and accomplished probate litigation attorney. Edward was licensed by the Supreme Court of the State Bar of Texas, a member of the Trials Skills Section of the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Bar Association, the Estate Planning and Probate Section of the Dallas Bar Association, and the North Texas Estate Planning Council. Edward was also a former Golden Gloves boxer following the tradition of an uncle who once fought for a world championship. Edward was a gracious, loving, gentle soul and will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Rice of Conroe, Texas, his paternal grandparents, Clemmie Ieda Rice and Frank Patrick Rice; his maternal grandparents, William Henry Harris Sr. and Gladys Harris of Cut and Shoot, Texas. Edward is survived by his son, William Rice, his mother, Victoria (Helen Harris) Knight of Seattle, Washington; his sisters, Summer Gardner of Elizabethtown, Ky, Paula Wyatt of Lindale, Texas, Ann Worley of Austin, Texas, Holly Heinrich of Seattle, Washington; his brother, Chet Rice of Newnan, Ga, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends. A Memorial Service is scheduled for April 26, 2017 at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas at 4:00 p.m. Reception to follow.
